One of your criticisms was that due to there being some apartments at the top, (and here's where it got really boring) it was only for 'rich folk'.... Who cares! Some people are rich.. get over it... not sure why it's so bad to be rich nowadays.

This will have an awesome public viewing gallery at the top too.

This building is fantastic, it's interesting, has great cladding and it sits in the best position. Londoners should be proud of it.

No one wants to hear your opinion so shut up and stop trying to cause an argument!
The Shard is one of the most beautiful buildings in the world

The point I was trying to make was, why build a tall building with hardly any useable space at the top?
Look at 1wtc, some of the buildings in Moscow. Plenty of useable space at the top.
I'm beginning to have the same reservations about Shanghai Tower, which is a building I love watching. If you look at the area of the floor plates at less than halfway up they look pretty small compared to the lower ones, so what will they be like at the top.
Btw, people like yourself who can't bear different opinions are boring grow up.
And as far as rich people in this tower are concerned, I think it will only be russian gangsters or oil shieks who will have the dough to live in it.

We've been building buildings with little usable space up top for a long time. For example, Pyramids (hardly any usable space at all), Church spires and domes.

When we do build with more useable space up top be get a barrage of protests a la 20 Fenchurch Street.

It would be great if they could have made use of the space up there but obviously the economics did not work otherwise they would. Without those extra floors the building would not look as elegant.

Perhaps those floors could be used as an urban market garden for growing vegetables for sale in the city or nearby Borough Market.

Whats the point of art? It's a waste of time?

Whats the point of painting a beautiful picture? The painting is completely useless.

What's the point of music? Serves no real function.

What the point in being romantic? Doesn't help you do anything really.

Whats the point in poetry? Useless writing?

^The more you reply to this guy, the happier he gets. It's called being a troll. And you have a point; top heavy buildings aren't the most popular style.

having a forum where everybody has the same opinion has no value and is not what i want. parsonsnose, thankyou for you opinion, you are entitled to give it.

having a forum where a poster can't express a view point, because it is slightly off topic, without getting it in the neck is not what i want. parsonsnose, if you want to bring views on rich people and their place at the top of tall buildings to the forum, feel free.

one should also be able to post on a forum without having to qualify every last damn word of the post against what has already been written on the forum, or against wikipedia.

i hate the word troll. i thought it meant being socially abusive on a forum, you know, like encouraging teenagers to commit suicide and the like. but now people throw the word troll at anyone who's upset them for some reason.

everybody is different and everybody expresses themselves in different ways, and nobody has a right not to be offended. just deal with it.

am i trolling? i'm off topic, and an argument may ensue, although it's not my intention. according to wikipedias definition of trolling i might be, but then i haven't read it.

Thank you beaky, you have the same attitude as me.
This forum seems overpopulated with adolescents. Though Jamie Fearon makes a good point, but needs telling that the point of being romantic helps you get your end away.

I'm glad that we have a supertall building in our country, but I would have preferred something more substantial I suppose.
I don't really have a problem with the building, but I do with the attitude of some of the posters on this thread, (Not you, thanks for the great pics throughout).

Canary Wharf looks huge in the London Landscape, but is utterly dwarfed by most of these supertalls. Something like the new 1 WTC would look ridiculous in London.
