Yeah, I was surprised when I saw they mentioned not only the Shard on memebase, but the Olympics observation tower as well!

All the new skyscrapers, the Shard, the Pinnacle, the Vauxhall Tower and the Leadenhall Building suit London so well. 20FS is a different story, but London looks so modern nowadays.

The British have a quite own style of building skyscrapers.
They use more steel and less cement.
At least this is my feeling.

The only thing that might have been better, is if they had put a thinner version of the Pinnacle where the Shard is, and put the Shard itself in the City. That way the Shard would fit in perfectly with all the various geometric shapes, and Southwark would have a slightly more ornate tower that would justify its solitary position.

It's a shame that the Shard's different sections of glass, ie the 'shards' don't really come across in a skyline picture, it looks a little unsubstantial. Obviously we'd have had to bare even more complaints about the solitary-ness itself, but it would have been worth it. The Shard will never be an Eiffel Tower, it will be internationally recognised but it will not become a symbol of Britain.

It looks great from some angles but it doesn't look so great from others, this one for instance.

A new lens (to me anyhow) arrived in the post today - a 1980s Canon FDn 300mm F/4 which is like it came out of the factory yesterday.

I had to take it out for a spin at lunch time, didn't I?

Great pics thanks, that maintenance unit at the top looks like an accident waiting to happen. One wrong move and it will demolish half the top of the building.
