We have Big Ben/Tower Bridge etc for that.

Much like despite New York's many skyscrapers.. two of the main international symbols for the city and indeed the whole of the US are still The Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty etc.

In terms of national symbols though, there are only two cities in the world that I can think of that are instantly internationally recognised by the vehicles of their transport system... London and New York. I couldn't tell you what anywhere else's looked like.

Here's my contribution for today.

North side of the spire

A George Formby moment

Mounting points for the lower level canopies on Joiner Street have begun to be put in.

The hoarding behind the escalator has been removed (and the site entrance for personnel relocated to underneath the escalator). Finally we have a clear view.

Some nice sunlight on the St Thomas Street canopies this evening

The higher level canopies on Joiner Street have been put back together after their recent partial disassembly.

You get a great view of this tower from Alexandra Palace! Was there last Friday, and the sun was doing its 'reflecting thing' off of the side of the Shard.. the rays were incredible .. no camera though sadly..

The Shard is rapidly becoming one of my firm favourites. Wish we had something like this up in Liverpool, you lucky dabbers.

I like this tower! Looks beautifull. Although it has some sides wich make me think. Well they could've improved that a bit right?.

Anyways, nice building!

One of the lower canopy beams on Joiner Street has been put up. I caught these on Friday (been a bit busy since)

Even if it was spelt phonetically it wouldn't be written 'Tims'.

Possibly it might if you're at Eton school

'Tems' for the rest of us, though.

Great to see London finally getting a supertall. It is not the most dominating building though.

Is that necessarily a bad thing?

A lot of mentions of the Shard in the Jubilee Pageant today. Though unfortunately it was obscured with cloud so we couldn't see much of it in London's first significant event since topping out. We'll get some great shots of it for the Olympics though.

This building does look like a glass version of the San Francisco's transamericana piramid tower. They removed the side elevator shafts. But I like it
