That view is from Shooters Hill, one of my favourite places to check out the skyline.

You can see how the Shard has progressed from this photo a while back:

great building. i was going to pass a picture of the british skyline that i saw yesterday, but i couldn't find it today. Anyways, in that pictures it shows what a great addition this tower is to the beautiful skyline london has.

Does anyone know when the covers of the blinds are coming off? It will make a huge difference when that happens

Strata and St George were much further west (left of picture). Including them would have ruined the balance of the image as there would have been a lot of low rise between the Shard and those two. Not to mention the rooftops in the way, I could only have included them by either photo stitching or using a wider angle including street clutter (random parking polls and street lamps which would have been in shot.)

To give you some idea of the empty space left of the shard:

Shooters Hill 5 photo pano by corerising, on Flickr

As you can see, that includes the London Eye, but still doesn't go far left enough to include Strata or St George’s tower.

Also on the original shot the skyline goes further right of image, past Canary Wharf. The O2 is literally just out of shot, and behind that is Stratford. Again these weren’t included because the balance of the image would be off, as well as physical limiting factors such as the rooftops being in the way. I could have included the O2, but that would have meant cutting out the Shard since it would then be hidden behind a different roof or the far left.
