I reckon once the building is properly up and running with the offices/observation deck then It will definitely take off and be number 1

Saw Skyfall yesterday and was disappointed that the Shard did not appear at all, even in a skyline shot. Maybe the top was still U/C when the movie was filmed?

How long did it take for St. Mary Axe to become recognized by the general public? Wikipedia is saying that it won numerous awards upon completion.

I really don't know why they put that ugly glass box appendage at the base of the shard, it reminds me of a wart. Can you imagine if they did something like that to the Gerkin? Why didn't they give it a clean pyramid shape?

Modern office requirements, especially in finance, are for wide open flat floors. The "backpack" was necessary for the building to be profitable.

Sellar Property Group turned them down so I guess in return the Bond team didn't want to give them any publicity?

Hopefully now the building work is complete, it will be in the next one!

To be fair, it would be incredibly disruptive during construction. It more often happens once a building is complete, but vacant.

It's good to see so many films using London as a backdrop now. Kind of underlines how unrecognisable changed it's image is from the rather grotty down-at-heel place with rubbish food it was right into the early 1980s. Same for a lot of the UK's major cities actually - lots still to do, but good to see nonetheless.

amusingly they used Broadgate tower rendered at three times its height (oh what should have been!) for the Shanghai tower scene.

Anyone else annoyed by the new lighting at the top?

Installed yesterday and visible in SO143's pick above. I feel that it tries to convince us that the top part actually contains occupied floors. We know it doesn't, and that doesn't matter because because it still makes sense as a structure. Don't like it at all.

I actually like it, the Shards lighting has been underwhelming IMHO.
