Why was this tower built, to add London's name to the list of cities with supertalls, or just another architectural landmark? London doesn't have many highrises to complement it's height. Looks out of place to be honest.

Don't care why, I'm just glad it got built. European cities need to be more aggressive in building taller. I'm pretty impressed by what I'm seeing in Moscow's IBD. Hopefully other Euro cities will follow.

It's an instant landmark. Right now I can't imagine London without the Shard.
The Shard is to London what the CN Tower is to Toronto. It has to stand almost by itself to make the best impact.
