Thanx Xfire101! That's a great update on a very cool project for Guy's Hospital. I had it completly confused with the Trellick Tower. We need a Brutalist architecture thread!

I see in one of the renders thatīs itīs ride next to a trainstation. Is that really true? That would be great. If I will ever go to London again (first time I was 3 years old so I can't remember) we'll probably go somewhere outside of London in a chalet or something like that which is a lot cheaper than in the middle of the city. And then we will go by train, so when I get out the first thing I see is the Shard... Marvelous...

Yep, london bridge station mate, train goes right next to it and past it... thats why i guess once built hundreds of people will see go straight past this on the train each day, so there is bound to be a lot more interest in this kind of skyscraper activity in london in the future...

It may not be as tall as many upcoming buildings in Asia, but it certainly is going to be one of the beautiful skyscrapers ever built... Absolutely great!

Btw: I like the Trellick Tower! :P

Hundreds? London Bridge handles about 54 million passengers a year, so you're looking at about 150,000 a day

Tower cranes

I love those tower cranes with the swinging counterweight rig. Anyone know who makes them?

Here's a few other pics from lunch time today

St Thomas Street view

The new stuff alongside Joiner Street and the pedestrian bridge

The interior of the site is getting quite busy with structural steel

... which is making clear sight-lines of activity in the basement fairly limited (unless you're looking through the mucky plastic sheet on the bridge)

A couple of close ups of the steel joints

Just as I was leaving we had a brief, but quite heavy, fall of snow - unusual for London these days, especially in December. One might even say 'exceptional'

There's more snowfall forecast overnight, so I guess we'll have to see what it's like in the morning.

I was just comparing this to Heron when it started being built and it's so much bigger!

Look how tall those steel bars are! It's just the base!
