This building will be the jewel of the New York skyline I think, It is the right size and looking at those pictures I will imagine that the glass will really reflect the other buildings and shimmer.

It could just stay to the side of that surface and still have a vertical drop for part of the boom's range. If I'm doing the math right, at the top, going straight out from the middle of the surface, it would have to reach out 70 feet to hit the ground, but there's no reason for that.
No telling how anyone could think the top of a non stepped tower could be smaller than the bottom without a sloping side.

English is s second language for many forumers (and many others are just functioning illiterates) so they should not be ridiculed for not understanding the nuances of English, such as Taper, Slant and Slope.

The crane on the corner is on a side that slants away from vertical but that side actually gets wider as it rises not narrower. Therefore it does not taper to a point, but widens to a wedge shape.

Therefore the crane can sit on that side all the way to the top, if they wish.

At first I wasn't too sure on this design, but now I really love it! It'll be the new NYC rising into the future! I can't wait to go into this building too... I hope there will be a huge party the day this thing opens so it can reunite us all together! We'll never forget but we will move on that's just life....

If your language of English is imperfect it would probably be advisable not to ridicule someone elses post until you're sure of what you and he are saying.
And, there's nothing about the word taper that implies up or down.

New World Trade Center developers scrap plans for Windows on the World-type restaurant
By STEVE CUOZZO

Developers of the new 1 World Trade Center have scratched plans for a Windows on the World-type restaurant on the iconic tower's top floors, The Post has learned.
The planned eatery -- which had been part of the building's plan since it was first called the Freedom Tower -- was shelved due to concerns about cost and the difficulty of finding a restaurateur willing to run a likely money-losing operation.
Port Authority executive director Chris Ward said, "These things are always money-losers. We think we can achieve a far better financial return given the [quality of the] space and avoid all the complexiities.
"New York City already has plenty of great restaurants," Ward said.
The tower is being built by the PA and private developer Douglas Durst. An original plan for a two-story restaurant, first announced in 2007, was later scaled down to one floor -- but even that proved probihitively costly.
The decision to drop the restaurant came abruptly. The PA Web site still includes a "skyline" restaurant among the tower's amenities.

Turn that restaurant space into another viewing level. Fine with me.

What's that gorgeous tall building on the right of the last photo? That's what I love about New York, after being there and looking at pics of it all the time on SSC I still discover great new buildings I never saw before.

The one with the clock and dome at the top? It's the Williamsburgh Savings Bank Tower.
