Both, it's steel encased in concrete.

It's 2" rebar in compressed concrete. It's designed to be "terrorist-proof". The bottom section has no offices or anything and angles outwards to deflect the blast to protect against truck bombs. As for the core, my guess is they started with making sure a 737 couldn't take it down again, then worked their way up in scale (777, 747, A380) until somebody decided to prepare the building in case somebody got their hands on an Antonov or 2.

Also, a new video I took that's my first experiment with time lapse.

^I like how in the very first shot of your time lapse, there's a plane flying in the direction of 1WTC

Twin 1WTC are still a theoretical possibility. Now if there wont be much demand for the planned towers then all of this won't happen. In fact I think that the currently planned 2WTC and 3WTC will also rise only if there is enough demand for offices in 1WTC.

On the other hand if demand will be high and people will be racing with each other just to get offices in the new WTC, then the Port Authority of New York will look at this:

And what it'll see is a big empty area below 1WTC. If the new WTC would make a lot of money to them they would profit from a building built on this empty space.

If at this point there would be a large, and most important of all, a loud movement that would organize petitions, gatherings and maybe some sport events like let's say a marathon called "Marathon for a second Freedom Tower" then it would be quite probable that they would indeed build a second 1WTC and give NY new twin towers.

And I really appreciate all the safety measures they're giving this building. They're making it H-bomb proof. In my opinion the most important thing at skyscraper design is resilience. And 9/11 has proven that. I'm only a bit surprised that they apparently don't wanna give the other buildings this kind of resilience.

If the Death Star would ever attack Earth 1WTC will be the only thing that will remain of this planet

Two problems:

First, the relative positions of the new twin towers would make the skyline look really awkward from most viewpoints. Also, the nice downward spiral of the current masterplan would be lost. In other words, a big architectural no-no. Second, and more importantly, the foundations for the site are almost complete, designed for a much smaller building, and lie almost directly upon the PATH tracks, even more so than 1WTC.

That no new twins are to be built is clear for years now.

Well the problem is i dont see a vision in this one.And second.Where is the nice downward spriral than.We wil have two retail stumps. As for archtectural. This is realy a No No.And wy would they make a bunker underneed a skyscraper.Because they are chicken.A nice big nuke would level everything here.dont forget the improved bomb screening .if they want to go 100%.people just need to uncloath themself.Because they could have a real nasty one in there *******s.Comeon people wake up.This is shit.Wy build a 30 storie bunker. For a carbomb?.Do you think this the correct thing to do.They call it one world trade center. For who?.all of the gouvernment agentes that leased there. This is not even a world trade center anymore.the intire vision. An architects dream. It al went up in smoke on 9/11.They say we are rebuilding.Realy ok than. Can you tell me where the twin towers are than.and yes.We went over this 1000 times. You know.Wy not go for the 10,000.just to be shure. The twin towers wil comeback. These buildings being build are cursed.Be honest is this for wat youre all voted for. This year it is 10 years ago that we lost oure beloved trade center. And to be honest. This plan failed at the moment it was already presented. No proper leasements nothing at all.gouvernment just least in the hope they would have it occupied.A reasen to build. All those offices that were in the twins stil exists today. They wanted to go back. But they just dont want to pay for all of the wasted money. They want proper offices.Like the old days. And dont forget the port authority i stil remember how they prased the towers to heaven.and now that they are there. They just hate it.But anyway.nice steel porn updates.Realy gives me a hard one cheers

They could just finish the old Metropolitan Life North building now that would really add to Manhattan's skyline.

April 24th 2011

I woke up this morning and decided to take a drive in to lower Manhattan with my significant other and spend the day at the World Trade Center site. We had a blast stopping at a bunch of places in the area for food and quite a few drinks.

Here are some pics we took over the course of the day from 11 AM to 5 PM in that order. I will also be posting pics of the Memorial and WTC 4 in there respective threads ASAP.

Enjoy! We Did!

Edit: BTW Otie... well said!
