In the first picture above me, you can only see the inside of the building in the corners from the 28th floor and onwards. Is it true that the first 8 floors only have white steel cladding in the corners, with glass covering it?

I never noticed it before, but you can clearly see it in night shots as this one posted by Otie

That's something I've never noticed before...

But on a different subject, do we know what will become of The Sphere once the site is complete? Will it stay in the park where it is, or will it brought back home?

And if it will be brought back to the WTC, where on the site would it be?

"According to The New York City Department of Parks and Recreation spokeswoman Vickie Karp, the city is looking to relocate The Sphere by summer 2011 when construction will begin to restore the park’s lawn forcing the sculpture to be moved. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, who owns the Sphere, is considering placing the sphere in Liberty Park which will be located between the 90 West Street building and the World Trade Center Memorial site. Liberty Park won’t be constructed until at least 2013, so a location is need to place the Sphere until Liberty Park is completed. Currently the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has not made an official final decision on where to place the sculpture once Battery Park construction commences forcing the sculpture to move. Until Liberty Park opens, the Sphere may have to go into storage.

An online petition created by 9/11 families demanding the return of "The Sphere" to the 9/11 Memorial has gained more than 3,000 signatures.

Officials from the 9/11 Memorial have stated that they do not want any 9/11 artifacts cluttering the 8-acre memorial plaza. There are no plans to Place the Sphere on the 9/11 Memorial site. Liberty Park, which is south of the 9/11 Memorial, is not part of or on the site of the 9/11 Memorial."

Hey!! did you notice, the base of the Statue of Liberty is "brown and ugly"? maybe we can change it for a nice blue and shining, modern exterior.

Why do they not want it back on the site? If they put the Sphere exactly where it was on the new site as it was on the old site, that'd be perfect (IMO).

Exactly where it was, would be impossible with the layout of the new memorial and street. The sphere would sit right in the middle of the yet-to-be-reopened Greenwich Street.

The placing of it just to the West of its original placement would be close.

9/11 Memorial Waterfalls Tested At Ground Zero

The waterfalls at the National 9/11 Memorial were tested yesterday, as work continues in preparation for the Memorial's opening on September 11, 2011.
The memorial, "Reflecting Absence," based on architect Michael Arad design and revised by Arad and landscape designer Peter Walker, features two pools in the footprints of the WTC's towers, with waterfalls cascading down their sides. Around the pools, engraved in bronze, are the names of the nearly 3,000 victims of the 9/11 attacks, as well as the 1993 World Trade Center bombing at the North Tower. The National 9/11 Memorial and Museum also recently released the placement of names on the Memorial.
Arad's design was selected in January 2004; he told us in 2009, "It's definitely not a sprint, it's a marathon, so we had to be very dedicated to the project and persevere with a lot of difficulties. I'm happy with where we are today, and it's in no small part due to the leadership of Mayor Bloomberg, who took control of the project and pushed us along and made it possible for us to be as far along as we are now."

How about placing it back to its original site and create some sort of a roundabout? Would that be possible?

Unlike what a lot of sticklers on this site purport to be true... Almost anything is possible!

... if you throw enough money at the situation... Even rebuilding the Twins...

But what is cheap and what is practical, is always what gets done.

Besides, in this case where I placed it, will make the most sense for all the visitors to see up close and have their picture taken beside. Do you want all those future visitors dodging traffic and risk getting run over for that classic photo?

That makes sense enough.

I thought the same thing, but I think a roundabout might impinge too much on the Transit hub, yes?

That's a strange choice of words. "Cluttering" - as if having such a powerful piece of current history, one that means so much to people, is a just bit of junky bric-a-brac. Also, "artifact", as if it's something old and remote from people's lives and memories.

I think this injured sculpture has a powerful and poignant reality to it that makes it natural for the memorial square. Although I really like the way the memorial seems to be turning out - it could be careful of sanitizing things too much by making them thoroughly neat and orderly. The terrible condition of the sphere is a direct, untidy reminder of the impact of that awful day. I believe it would help the memorial plaza and compliment it.

But that is exactly what the Big Business-types who are building this wanted. They don't want their future tenants scared off by frightening imagery. It was never what the survivors or families wanted, but that's what you're getting.

A sanitized, Ground Zero.

Watch the Penn and Teller BS episode on Ground Zero. It's shocking.
