But it's not like a pyramid. Won't it be the same dimensions at the very top floor as it is at the first (or 20th, whatever it is) floor? So it's not really getting much smaller at the top.

But don't forget there'll be 4 buildings, 3 of them supertalls and 1 almost a supertall. I'm sure they'll be just as imposing than the Twins

Don't forget that there has been much more development in Lower Manhattan since then.

Thanks for the answer. I think they could have engaged in designing a more daring project, after all the place was the scene of one of the hardest moments for the American people in the History!

The building is a lot bigger in person. Daring you do know they're building, four building at once down there.

Completion of one semester of high school geometry and a collection of STR's 1WTC renders should be a prerequisite for entering this thread.

In fact, the roof is in an elevation of 1,334' 8" (~406m), and the roof's area is ~47.2 % smaller than the 20th floor. At the very top of the parapet square (elevation 1368' or ~417m) its area is 50% smaller.
*Notice, I'm refering to the entire area, not the office floor space, and without the core's area.

And talking about perspective... An image should explain it.

just checked National Weather Service...it's a Tornado WATCH for NYC area....not a warning although there is an actual warning up for a small portion of southern Massachussets....FYI Tornado watch means tornado is POSSIBLE in affected area....tornado warning means tornado has been spotted or is imminent....big difference.

True - these great towers are about to totally redefine the Manhattan downtown skyline. And 1 WTC will be a bit taller than before and is going for Americas tallest ever due to a regular spire instead of an antennae.

But today we're almost used to see shiny new supertall clusters rising (in Dubai, Shanghai, Guangzhou for example), so our perception may have changed a bit.

1 WTC alone surely won't dominate as much as the twins did in the 70's, especially with the eyecatchers 2 and 3 WTC nearby. And the four different conceptions together are way to complicated to be as iconic as this radical design: II. When finished, this was a sheer sensation then - World's tallest multiplied with two, standing seperated from the now "tiny" looking downtown giants. IMO the new WTC design instead tries to link to the classic Wall Street cluster and to be its new climax... I guess this might work well.

So good to see the first WTC tower go beyond 250 m now.

also the beekman tower also takes some of the prominence alway from wtc 1 wtc 1 is, still half way from its pinnacle height so it is this early to tell how its impact will be.

It isn't the first WTC, isn't the second after tower 7.

Yankee fan

Beekman isn't that big.

this image is the best I could find to show the possible prominence of the complex - I'm sure there are better out there
doesn't include beekman or goldman sachs
