I honestly don't see any resemblance, even in the slightest bit =P

It looks like 1WTC is almost the tallest building in Lower Manhattan.

Interesting take, I never looked at it that way before. It is actually sort of reminiscent from that angle on the above pics.

Sorry to be completely off topic with this question, but what do you think would happen if only one plane only hit one tower and only one tower collapsed? Would the one left be repaired and they rebuild the destroyed twin?

Some good views of the new WTC would be from the North Shore Towers on the Queens/Nassau line. It's a long-shot from 16 miles away but pre-9/11 it was amazing, and will be again once 1wtc is complete.

Also from the Bayonne Bridge, featured in the movie Godzilla, at a slightly lesser 8 miles away would provide a spectacular view of the new site.
I'm also a fan of shots taken from great distances. It amazes me how visible the towers were from so far away and showed their dominance.

I found these pics some time back http://www.slate.com/id/2226525/

I really can't wait until this tower is finished so we can see just how it will impact the skyline.

Thanks everyone for the great updates on the towers construction. I've been checking the progress here nearly everyday

It would probably depend on how damaged the other tower was from the collapse.

[QUOTE=Traynor]Then you should familiarize yourself with other great buildings that were destroyed and then many years later, painstakingly recreated. Like the famous Christ the Saviour Cathedral in Moscow:

I was taking about my emotional aspect and perception, i know their where other structure's that where destroyed and rebuild such as the Parthenon of Athens witch where destroyed by the Persian invasion of 480 BC and rebuild but throughout out history they where structures that where destroyed and never rebuild because of emotional and religious belief such as the colossus of Rhodes i work in the world trade center for two years i had friends and loved ones that died that i will never get back and for me the twin towers are and other representation of my lost.

Hmmm, well I always thought 7 wtc was subtle homage to the Marriott, maybe that's just me. Anyway, does anyone know if buildings new building 3 (175 Greenwich Street) will be built at all? The Wikipedia page says that the building's only in the planning stages and virtually nothing has been done on its construction site.

To yankee fan for life,
At first i wanted the twins back but now I do realise maybe they should'nt rebuild them for that very reason.
BUT !! I do think they should of built TWIN building's ie 2 freedom towers 2 identicle buildings, just to give that iconic symbol again!

That image in my head of the twins just screams out america! I wish i could of seen them in the flesh.
2 big bold brothers towering above all else standing strong, side by side. purely symbolic.

watch this and see what the firefighter says when he is asked about the new building's http://www.foxnews.com/on-air/rise-o...dom/index.html

All aside I'm sure when the whole complex is finished it will look grand!

Yeah, most of New York's firefighters want the Twins back, as do most of New York.
I think Ken Gardener's Twin Towers II was stunning, definitely something officials should have considered.
But I suppose building the Freedom Tower will usher in a new era not just for Manhattan, but for all of America.
Although many people dislike the Freedom Tower, believe it or not, when the Twin Towers were completed, New Yorkers thought they were dull, ugly slabs, ''just glass and metal filing cabinets''. I believe when the FT is finished, that kind of opinion is going to be evident, but I assure you, over the next 10-20 years, the FT will be just as loved and iconic as the Twins were.

I always kind of liked the Marriott, I liked the way the Towers rose above it. I stayed there in 1992 when, even then i was afraid of the towers collapsing and smashing the hotel, killing me and everyone else in it. Kind of spooky.

What New York is getting now is 100 times better than the twin towers in my opinion - The twin towers were so out dated and boring. The new development rocks

cheers
