I'm starting to like the bare red steel at the bottom... Very red, white, and blue.

Lookin very sexy 1wtc.

Question: does the tower taper off a bit towards the top, or is it plum vertical on all sides? Some renders suggest tapering, others don't.

the tower (above the base portion) has 8 sides. as it rises, 4 of the sides do not taper but go straight up, and the other 4 sides taper as they rise.

...I have to make an observation here, even tho we are a bit OT. It's very fortunate the airship plan didn't work out. Can you imagine what would have happened if the Hindenberg had blown up here, rather than in New Jersey? Oh the humanity!

Looking at the drawing, it's obvious the ESB's hieght should count all the way to the top (where the airship is moored). It's obvious it was intended to be a functional part of the building.

Cheers Matt. It was only a very quick visit (well, quick to NY - I was in Vegas for a couple of weeks) and I didn't have my 'proper' camera kit with me.

Hope to be back in the greatest city in the world sometime soon

Hope you can make it up to Toronto soon. We have many projects that could use your cunning eye and talent. I could tell it wasn't your main kit. You've got that main kit down to a science based off of those Dubai pics. Keep it up mate.

Second pick from the bottom shows clearly the tapering of WTC1. At its base you can see it to the left side of the World Financial Center building. But as it goes up you can't see it as it tapers and is blocked by the WFC building. This thing is going to be tiny by the time it reaches its full height :-(

Not that "tinny", the LQ diagram above can give you an idea of how the "worst" angle should look.
