^I doubt that the guys that thought up this building care about height. They probably just thought it'd be a nice idea to make the height the year our country was founded.

I'd like to bring up the point that several 2000+ft buildings were approved in Chicago. They didn't end up being built, but they did receive the proper approvals.

A spire can be just as easily removed or added as an antenna. Therefore there is no difference between a spire and an antenna. As to what the correct measurement is, it's roof height as the primary measurement and pinnacle height and top floor as secondary measurements. The official height is total nonsense.

The new WTC complex looks amazing, however it's height is not. In fact, it is horrible. The tallest building equally tall to the old tallest building, the second tallest building smaller than the old second tallest building. And as a whole, the buildings are tiny compared to nowadays skyscrapers. I think 1WTC should have had 1776 ft as roof height and 2001 ft as pinnacle height.

Wish Carlos were back, he'd cut off this irrelevant discussion with photos from his apartment... Only Otie and meh_cd have brought on-topic stuff, with beautiful pictures as always!

For people arriving in NYC after September 11th, this may be interesting:

What's the height of the tower atm?
It was posted on the last page, ~883 feet, or ~269 meters.

Excluding the one lonely column piece that brings it up to ~909 feet (i think), or ~277

Is the one column a part of the next two floors? If it is why is it up so early before other columns installation?

Yeah it is, although I have no idea why it was put up so early.

I believe it is just the construction speeding up a little due to September 11th being only 2 months away.

Two Questions:
1. What floor is cladding on now?
2. What's up with the scaffolding on the base?

Oh.. So we should be seeing the rest of the columns rising soon, it appears that way on lowermanhattan.info's updates

I love seeing construction in high gear. And I hope they exceed expectations for the 10th anniversary, so far 1wtc looks awesome

They're now cladding the 48th floor, that's the 29th floor above the base.
