Now we both know the Chrysler building isn't 1,200 feet tall. Ok now how many more buildings in the country are taller than it.

On a different note, does anyone know the "official" spelling of the WTC Towers? Is this building officially "1 World Trade Center" or "One World Trade Center?"
I will post a time-lapse video of the progress from sep2010 to sep2011 (same webcam).. you will probably see the video on the 10th anniversary of 911 attacks.

Will NYC build a supertall taller than 1WTC?
Even Shanghai has a tower taller than 600 meters. But 1WTC is only 417m.
NYC must keep to be tallest!

That's what i thought, They are so alike. I love the base, how the pillars fork off and run all the way up the building, thats what i loved about the twins.

Good to see that there is a relic on this planet of the twins still in the 21st century.

Good find there.

Good progress on the tower. It also seems the construction of the Transportation Hub is in full swing, as well as Greenwitch St. (which is apparently going to be a four lane street?)

But they have to work some magic in the next 2 months to really be ready for the 10 year anniversary.

It's been 40 years since NYC had the tallest. I think people need to let it go.

Wrong. The Twin Towers were the tallest buildings in the world until 1998, when surpassed by the Petronas Towers. NY could easily have reclaimed the title in Lower Manhattan if Larry Silverstein had planned for one or two fewer towers (there are five + the performing arts center). The failure to pursue the title is some kind of pointless fear that terrorists would be more attracted to it than they would anyway.

I'm new here...I'm not a architect, or a building "buff"...just a NYer who loves the progress of the construction site. But, I'm pretty sure the Sears tower (which I think is called the Willis tower now)beat out the twins back in the 70's. Anyway, back on topic...I might be going down to the site to take some photos. My camera is only a decent digital camera...it doesn't compare to the beautiful photos that most of you are posting. But I'll give it a shot. A big THANK YOU for all who contribute photos and knowledge to this site. It's very inspiring!!!!!

This is not a pointless fear.
This building is meant to represent the Twins in a safer, more modern form.
We aren't in a battle with the rest of the world. We aren't in a "height" race. These buildings will still be among the tallest in the world. The new World Trade Center is a slap in the face to the terrorists, but it doesn't need to be focused on them. Be happy with what we have thus far. These buildings are of very high quality and they're much safer than the Twins were.

PS: The netting's being raised over the new columns.
