germantower: Well, I think the old WTC was a far superior design to the new one.

at first glance it looks like GS and i know what you mean it's confusing but i am not sure there is anything that big closer to where you shot that pic. were you on 7th ave? and i am not sure GS has that cut out looking thing at the top. i would have to say it isnt but i've spent 30 minutes trying to figure it out (with google earth driving down Henry Hudson Pwky) and i have to get to work. i am sure someone will know this in an instant

I didn't take the image. I've been trying to work out which road it was taken from. Yeah, I thought too that there was nothing else that big there. Ah well yeah, someone will be sure.

It's the trump SoHo hotel, If You're looking at the same pic as me. 6th ave, I think. And it's a lot closer to the camera than the wtc, and in reality, compared to the wtc, is a lot shorter.

Oh ok. Yeah I know it's way shorter. I didn't realise it was taken that far away. Thanx.

EDIT - Just looking on Google Maps I'd agree that it is the Soho, but I couldn't find the exact place on 6th, so maybe it's not on there, i dunno. Thanx anyway though

Stairway to Heaven....

Actually it looks like it might be a section of the scaffolding that sits on top of the core and climbs with the cranes. I think the core is changing shape here so they are probably reconfiguring the scaffold.

Superior how. I'm going to disagree on a totally artistic level.

I have question to new york residents:

do most of you still prefer the old twin towers or did you 'get used' to the new single freedom tower?

i mean, now if you see how it rises, don't you think that this is coequal together with the other towers?

for me, the new wtc is awsome, especially tower 1 + 2, together they give an awsome picture in the skyline..
I was a young child in 1973 and to me the WTC was something out of this world, so massive, tall and imposing....to me there was nothing like it.....when they were destroyed I wanted exact replicas build but the sentiment grew less and less and the years went on..today I am happy to see the New 1 WTC (please don't call it "Freedom Tower"....it will be better! more people friendly that the old WTC.

That might be. The Twin Towers dominated the skyline, the new WTC, with it's spiral rising, gently rises in the skyline. That makes the new WTC work better with it's surroundings, on the other hand the Twin Towers simply put all other buildings aside, and I like that more than what the new WTC will do.

1 WTC is being built into a skyline that has grown a lot since the Twin Towers were being constructed. If you were building even just this 1 WTC instead of the Twins in the early '70's, you'd probably say it looks pretty dominant, no?
