Uhm, apart from the name 'Wallstreet' (like Broadway ao.) there's nothing Dutch (and hardly any English) left. These buildings are Holland-renaissance style copy's - and even bad one's. In stead of walking through 400-year old streets, this is 20th century facade-architecture. Nothing ancient about this.

Great pictures of the WTC1 building progress. Enjoying it every day! We all love New-Amsterdam

The view from or around Lady Liberty and Jersey will offer some iconic pics in the future, so will Carlos's view

Some of you have contacted me over someone who is posting in red font and has been asked not to.

I really don't understand this. Posting every post in red is just annoying, being asked to start posting in a normal font like everyone else is not unreasonable.

As far as I can see, carlos' posts are outstanding already, there really is no need to post everything in red. Honestly in my opinion it just makes the post look less mature.

I don't think these forums are very oppressing when it comes to being able to post. But if people want to leave over something as utterly stupid as being asked to stop posting in red, then I guess that's their choice. Generally that goes for everyone who think they can use their contribution as leverage to do whatever else they want to do and can't respect unobstructed requests not to.

Grow up guys.

Caught in the act! We moderators are always seen as the bad guys, it's some sort of reflex. Perhaps we can change this attitude by the time more and more people join us and help improving the forum. In the end, we mods probably are the guys being most enthusiastic about urban issues and this forum, otherwise we wouldn't do it.

So if some of you guys (and gals?) are willing to help us make this forum even more enjoyable - contact me. I'm serious. We'll then discuss how you could contribute as mods over here.

Sorry for another post out of the line, we'll delete all the offtopic soon again.

Okay folks, so I'm gonna bring the discussion away from the big Carlos controversy. Look at this, it's from Crainsnewyork.com:

Quote:
Premium leasing activity in New York trophy buildings remained strong for the third quarter in a row, according to statistics compiled by Jones Lang LaSalle on $100 per-square-foot starting rents—a harbinger that commercial rents will likely rise in all market sectors.

The stats show there were 12 spaces leased where rents started at $100 per square foot during the second quarter of 2011. There were 10 such spaces leased in the first quarter and 13 in the fourth quarter of 2010. This represents a significant jump from the seven previous quarters, the highest being the fourth quarter of 2009, with six such starting rents.

The strong recent figures show that the big-money tenants, like principals at hedge funds and equity funds, are scooping up prestigious properties again for new offices to court investors, said Mitchell Konsker, vice chairman of Jones Lang LaSalle. As these tenants get active, demand grows for space at properties such as the Seagram's and General Motors buildings as well as the towers at elite addresses such as 650 Madison Ave. or 375 Park Ave.

The importance of this high-level demand is that it generally leads to upward rent pressure in all levels of the leasing market, Mr. Konsker said. “There is a drafting effect from these higher priced properties,” he said. “Everybody benefits from this demand.”

Given the fact that there is no significant new construction planned for at least another year, the rental pressures should continue for awhile, Mr. Konsker added.
This looks promissing for the new WTC, it looks like demand for top class office space is on the rise. Do you folks think we'll see any new tenants for 1WTC any soon? I'm unexperienced in the world of real estate, so I'd like to hear what more experienced folks think about this

May the rise of this beautiful and strong-looking tower signal the rebirth of this nation from its shambles... it has happen before... it will happen again.

No 1 wtc has another 16 more feet to go until it surpasses American International Building for the 5th tallest spot.

It is. Here you have a diagram detailing which buildings have been beaten by 1WTC and which have not. With 276m 1WTC is currently the 5th tallest in NY:

Btw, by 9/11/2011 it'll be 2nd since it needs only 13m to beat BoA

One thing I've never understood is the way the top floor and the spire connect. Isn't the top floor open to the air or something? Sorry if I'm not making sense
