For those reading the article, it will help to know that Childs is a person (the Yale graduate) amd not the article incorrectly trying to say "children." ..Threw me for a loop.

Childs is right about how "...they were only really loved after they were destroyed". I wish he would have designed all of the new World Trade Center towers, considering how well the Freedom Tower looks.

Those pictures on the previous page were amazing!

EDIT: Exactly how far is the Freedom Tower from the North Tower's footprint? It looks pretty close in those photos. I know that the FT was built roughly where WTC 6 stood, but that doesn't really help.

I simply LOVE that picture.

Lower Manhattan Sunrise from Cruise Ship von CrapulePHL auf Flickr

And i fully agree with what Childs said. When i see older pictures from the lower Manhattan skyline, with the former WTC in it. I can't get why i was SO fascinated by them. I kinda feel a nostalgica, when it comes to them, ok. But from an asthetical POV, their destroying was the best LM could happen. The old skyline looked like the WTC was fighting against it's neighboors, while the new skyline will look like calm and peaceful neighboors gathering. Simply can't freaking wait until everything is beeing said and done, allthough i HATED the NWTC design at first. (see my comments in previous threads)

EDIT: if i did something wrong with the picture quoting, let me know.

Cheers

Does anybody know why they haven't raised the height for so long now? Are they preparing to pass 1000ft all in one go or what?

That would be my guess, they are probably going to put up 1 whole floor of columns and then the lonely column to break 1,000 feet. They probably would have done that yesterday if it weren't for the horrible weather.

I thought the next height jump was going to take it to over 1000'? It will only take it to 990.8' then.. unless they add an additional column for the next two floors right after, right?

It is a little misleading because there was 1 column that went as high as the 78th floor (where it is today) when they where just starting the 75th and 76th floors. People where counting it in total height. To the casual observer, it would seem that the tower has not gotten taller when in fact it has gotten 4 floors taller in total mass.

I for one don't like it when people say the tower is a certain height just because they added an additional column to the above floors (just my opinion). It is a little misleading and this is a perfect example why.

Three recent shots.

From Roberto Clemente Field in Jersey City.

One of NYC's 2 new fireboats tests its hoses.

A new corner piece goes up as another level of glass comes into view.

Breathtaking panoramic these last photos of the area.

Actually, this tower is growing very fast and already visible from every point of view.

Beautiful!!

I hope they light up the new buildings just like the old ones in the classic lower manhattan lighting scheme which is having a few floors/offices lit up while some not. Then for the tops of the buildings do it the way the top of WFC is lit up. Shame on goldman sachs having to light up that brightly..

I agree, they need to install some OFF switches in that building.

Last time when I was in NYC One WTC was just starting to rise above ground.
It doesn't look like it will be T/O by September 11, 2011, but I am looking forward to seeing it on that day.

I guess that's realistic. If not by then, definitely within that month.
