@STR. Nice work as always. I'm pretty sure that made all the Twin Towers fanboys really happy X)

But @600West218. I'm sorry I don't remember where I read that. It was probably on this thread or the 1WTC thread over on SSC though. But as STR's renderings show, the footprints of the original towers are slightly bigger then the footprints of the memorials (although not touching as I thought they would be). But I realize I got a little ahead of myself. While the tower's footprints are about 30x30 feet longer in either direction, it's only ~15 feet added to each side, not enough to make that much of a noticeable difference. My apologies :p

I can confirm this as well, although I don't have a source either.

1 was thinking the same thing earlier. But I had nothing to back it up so I left it alone.

The PA, Michael Arad and Peter Walker online documents, as well as some others released by Tishman Construction (AECOM) claim that the pools are each one 176' square foot. The New York Times has very good and detailed articles about the projects compared to other online journals.

Memorial Pools Will Not Quite Fill Twin FootprintsBy DAVID W. DUNLAP December 15, 2005

Each pool will be a 176-foot square, centered within the original 211-foot-10-inch-square footprint.

Well, "footprints" don't necessarily have the exact same size of your feet either.

it may be impossible to replace the two towers, but this tower is still a breathtaking sight.

That is correct - they are LARGER, not smaller.

So millions of people will go there thinking they are looking at the foot prints of the old towers - and they will be wrong. This is very unprofessional work. I am surprised the families of the victims didn't put up a big fight on this. Maybe they did and I just missed it.

The PA will probably blame it on lack of space. But I don't believe that. For starters they could have gotten rid of the stupid streets they have allowed back into the WTC site.

Very poor decision for something meant to be solemn.

Really? Keeping the dimensions of the footprints exactly the same as the original towers is preferrable to restoring the street grid and allowing the site to work with the natural fabric of the city? They're already the proper 208x208 in the underground portion, some people will never be satisfied with the memorial.

1. The super block that existed in the original WTC was a bad idea from the start. It limited access to the site and delayed first responders.

2. The way I see it, if you account for the inner most ring of trees that surround the pools you have the original footprints. When you are walking directly around the pools you would be in the lobby of the original towers. I find it very cool that when I will be walking around the reflecting pools on Sept.30 I would in fact be inside the original buildings. Just my opinion. You are of course entitled to yours.
