@Ebola: I doubt that this spire in realitiy will be as cool as in the first rendering, but we will see. I hope so, but too often, pictures of unbuilt skyscrapers look better than in reality after being built.

I don't know if there will be a "light show" but the light(s) that will be on the tower will shine up to 1,000 ft in the air, or something like that so no matter what the lighting will be spectacular.

Such graphics of the mast are just hype - there will not be any such light show.

Then I suggest you take a look at the earthcam. it is rising. They've placed the rebar for the walls of the core and are installing the formwork. I guess they'll pour it soon.

You wish.

The spire will be able to change colors and cast many beams of light into the sky; this information has been known for about a year. There are news articles that detail it more.

I'd like to see an extended version of the Pacific Bell microwave tower, (the one that sits on top of the 17 story Pacbell switching center in downtown Los Angeles) on top of WTC 1, for two reasons,

One, the design closely resembles the FT, esp. if it's orientation is right angeled to the roof.

Two, it can be structurally part of the building, (like Taipei 101) adding another 200' to the height, leaving the last 150' for the actual antenna.

Port Authority May Sell Parts of Freedom Tower

By Special to the Sun
September 21, 2007

In a move that could lessen the state's ownership stake in the Freedom Tower, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is moving forward with a search for possible financial partners for the building.

The Port Authority, a state agency that currently is the sole owner of the planned Freedom Tower, yesterday announced it hired Deutsche Bank to perform the work to determine the feasibility of bringing in equity partners.

While the agency has not committed to selling off some or all of the building, the feasibility study marks a clear step in that direction.

"We're looking at any and all options," a Port Authority spokesman, Steven Coleman, said.

The Port Authority owns the entire 16-acre site at ground zero, though it is leasing the land for the other three towers to developer Larry Silverstein.
