There, a $500 plaque commemorates the deaths of more than 800 people in 1915.

At least the pools and open space will be abstract and pleasing enough to be useful to future New Yorkers as park land - a pleasant place to eat lunch on a busy workday. I mean no disrespect to the thousands who lost their lives there 10 years ago. But the truth is the truth. Life goes on.
as long as there are people alive who witnessed 9/11 in person or on their televisions, the events that occured on 9/11 will be vividly embedded into the mind of the public and this memorial will not have been made too lavish, as you claim.

Perhaps I was engaging in hyperbole for the sake of discussion. But there are tens of millions of Americans who already don't give a rat's ass about 9/11 and tens of millions who simply don't want to dwell on it. I would even venture to say that a greater percentage of New Yorkers feel this way than people in the "red states". They just want the site rebuilt and the skyline restored in some way approaching its former glory.

I'm also saying it's a *good* thing that the memorial is largely abstract - two square pools surrounded by trees, with the museum being concealed underground. Despite the huge cost and size of the memorial it will begin to pass unnoticed by the tens of thousands of workers who use the WTC complex buildings on a daily basis. As it should be. Because no one is going to want to be constantly reminded of 9/11 when they're working in all these tall buildings surrounding the memorial.

how you view the memorial all depends on how you interpret its symbolism. you can either look at it as a symbol of tragedy and dwell on the past or you can view it as a remembrance of tragedy but also as a vision into a better future.

To mods: sorry this has gone off topic. I am done with it.
Okay drama queen, the footprints being off by a few feet is a lot better than building the memorial in Indiana.

In my opinion, another reason the footprints may be smaller is because they want people to think those are the actual footprints. That way, the new complex looks much more impressive and imposing.

hahahahaha. Good illustration of the problem with the Internet. It lets people half way around the world opine on things they no nothing about.

Anyways, where is Erbse when we need him to clean up all this non-topic stuff?

Isn't WTC 1 now at almost the exact height WTC 4 will top out at?

If so we see above the impression WTC 4 will make on the skyline.

Right now 1WTC is at the 78th floor having 293 meters. 4WTC will have 297 meters. In the next jump to the 80th floor 1WTC will have 302 meters

Btw wow, what's with all the double posts, I guess the forum has an error
