PS, when's the building's base gunna be clad? some sources say early 2012 but some say earlier than that..
Early next year. Not sure if it's been mentioned before, but APG International got the contract. It will have a dichroic coating applied to one layer at the north and south entrances of the ground-level main lobby and behind the lobby desks as well.

It never was per se. The information comes from the PA's meeting minutes from Feb 24th.

The PA is a public agency. The info is all on their website. You just gotta dig for it.

^Hmmm... interesting, I only know that both north and south lobbies will have these dichroic glass behind the desk, but never heard anything about the north and south outer cladding... if they're going to clad only these faces, why only 2 of 4? Any links to sources or documents you've saved, Spectre?

The documents are "protected", so you can't copy and paste unless you do a screenshot, but that's time consuming. But you can read for yourself.

I would guess they're doing only two sides due to costs. Seems a shame though. Especially since the north side isn't very visible.

Someone posted that on SSP, but I can't remember who...

It's so beautiful.

Would be awesome if one day they added a small elevator that could take observation deck visitors most of the way up the spire and then have a narrow spiral staircase leading up to a small circular platform at the top of the spire. Obviously the top deck would be very tiny (maybe 10 feet in diameter)and only a few people could be allowed up at a time, but there are already similar things in the Empire State Building and Statue of Liberty. I know it's probably impractical but would be cool if they could make it work.

I wonder though, if the final spire will look like that or end up looking swirly like that Discovery program render. The more I look at the swirly version, the more I prefer it.

That's the same spire / communications ring, isn't it?

EDIT: Now I see the difference. Yeah. That accommodates the building profile better, IMHO.

That's quite a fat and formidable wall between the entrance and the concierge. Designed to be bombproof I guess.

I'm surprised it looks so nice. Hopefully it retains a good look despite the glass, etc...

I agree with you. The "swirly" version is better

Btw, I like that lobby on the pic. This just proves that a lobby can look good even when being a concrete bunker
