Quick question.... I know it will take 6 months to finish the spire but what do you think will be finished first... Cladding or spire? It may be a stupid question as the cladding could be clear winner.

(by 6 months, I mean 6 months after the building has T/O)

Cladding will be finished before the spire is up. That is, if you are not counting the base.

Isn't the base supposed to be done this winter?

Scaffolding is now covering the whole southern face of the base. (http://www.panynj.gov/wtcprogress/live-camera.html)

Ok, my bad. I excluded it because I didn't think anyone was sure when it was going to get done.

I know it's probably impractical but would be cool if they could make it work.

Might be dangerous due to microwave radiation. Even though a roof observation deck would be nice.

The first version of the SOM 1WTC featured an Observation Deck at the top of the tower (1362' above lobby floor) with a parapet extending to 1368', but after several revisions engineers realised there was no space to put an open observation platform at the top of the tower. The main reason why there will be no O.D. is not due to the microwave radiaton that the communication equipment may emit, but to the fact that the tower is self-contained. There's cooling towers at top, as well as a window washing track, a permanent crane, a BMU* and other mechanical stuff.

Hurricane Irene could pass over the general NYC area in a couple of days which could be a significant drawback to the breakneck construction progress we've gotten used to.
