That diagram is inaccurate. 1 WTC is (well, will be) taller than Sears Tower.

And before anyone begins about spires and whatnot, I don't care. 1WTC is officially 1776 feet which makes it officially the tallest skyscraper in the United States.

Hi all.

I haven't see that show, but guess that's something like a once-in-10million-year event. If it did happen, it would wipe NYC off the map. No buildings, no matter how strong, would remain.
Great reply Swiddle.

I would add, they usually design for a 50 year event in regards to the wind. I would surmise the same for the others on the list. They have to draw a line in the sand between what is considered strong enough and the cost.

Gorgeous! I wonder how long it will take the trees to grow, for the actual memorial to really resemble that video.

what is the higest Hurricane it can survive from CAT 1 to CAT 5?
last but not least can One World Trade Center survive the big 1000 foot plus tusnami that the discovery channel predicits for NYC?

What is the max this Power house of a building can withstand?
I was checking out this article listing the 5 coolest features of one world trade centre, apparently it has a bomb proof base and is constructed of concrete that can withstand 14,000 lbs of pressure per square inch.

So that is pretty cool, it could withstand a truckload of 1500 lb's of explosives!

I don't really care whether or not it could withstand a CAT 5 hurricane or an EF 5 tornado, or even a magnitude 10 earthquake because that is never going to happen in NYC because of it's geographical location, it's basically impossible.

I do wonder whether or not it would have survived 9/11 had this of been the tower that was attacked and not the twin towers?

I don't know much about architecture but this looks awesome and with the 4 sided twisting effect, leading in to the octagon structure created half way up this would seem like a very solid design, coupled with the concrete elevator shafts running through the core I would have though this could have survived a 9/11 like attack.

First time I've seen the design for the new WTC complex and it's awesome, i've been to NYC a couple of times post 9/11, and I love the city. I'll be going back there as soon as the skyline is complete again. I can't believe there is almost no coverage of the new development in the UK, i'm sure it will be all over the media when completed though.

Yeh it really is, I like the memorial with the waterfall features surrounded by the oak trees. You get a much better idea what it will be like from the animation rather than pictures.

just a reminder, the WTC special on the Discovery Channel is airing tonight.
I didn't know it would be so long, 3 hours, divided into 3, hour long segments. It's repeated if you miss it.

As Hudson11 said, it'll be airing on Discovery Channel. If I'm not mistaking, I think the show will air in Europe starting with September the 5th, at 20:00 CET/ 21:00 EET. Also you might what to know that this will be a 6 episode documentary, so it'll air every day starting with September the 5th at the same hours (20:00 CET/ 21:00 EET).
