After watching the special on Discovery, I can answer someone's question asked a while back when this image was posted. This is the firetruck that was destroyed on 9/11 from Ladder 3 being lowered into the underground memorial before the hole it is being lowered through is sealed off.

I was upset that we didn't get to hear from Larry Silverstein.

alert warning!!!

hurucan irene

The alert returns to New York. After the Tuesday quake caused panic in the city, the state of emergency now turned to the arrival of Hurricane Irene over the weekend and is ready to evacuate 270,000 people from coastal areas. "We expect the best, but we prepare for the worst," the mayor said yesterday, Michael Bloomberg.

The governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, a state of emergency to coordinate forces before the arrival of Irene. So had hours before her colleagues in North Carolina and Virginia.

It's probably going to be a big mess. The tower cranes are not rated for winds above 60mph and could rip from their moorings and come down. There's serious concern about a tidal/storm surge conjunction at landfall in NY harbor that would send a wall of water towards the WTC site, overloading the storm drains and flooding out the basement levels. High winds may also threaten the trees planted at the Memorial. Power will be shut off and drains are being cleared but this storm is beyond the capabilities of crews shoring up the site. They'll secure what they can but there just isn't time enough to cover all the bases.

The more of North Carolina land it passes over, the more it will become disrupted and weaken. Let's hope the eye doesn't clip right over Cape Hatteras, and move straight for Long Island because that is the most damaging outcome.

If the eye manages to stay a bit offshore after Cape Hatteras until crossing over Long Island, NYC is in huge trouble. That is the most dire track it could possibly take at this point. A track to either side of that one would be less catastrophic.

these renders make me miss the twins even less. I like it, how 123 washington street is dwarfed, allthough it is a big tower when seen irl. It also adds to the spiral arrangment of this complex.

Sorry mate, it might be older. But if you click the link you'll see that the author says: 'This photo was taken on August 24, 2011'

I usually add the date specified there because some people might want to compare progress later, or they may simply be curious to know when the pic was taken. But I can't actually know whether that date is right or not cause I don't live in New York, I live in Europe. So feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, you know better.

WTC site is in the NYC Evacuation zone

http://www.nyc.gov/html/oem/download...ap_english.pdf

1WTC is in ZONE A -
"Residents in Zone A face the highest risk of flooding
from a hurricane's storm surge. Zone A includes all
low-lying coastal areas and other areas that could
experience storm surge from ANY hurricane making
landfall close to New York City"

According to the discovery show last night 1 wtc design was inspired by the twins and the Washington monument, i found that to be very interesting.
