Well that's what someone said over on the Memorial thread. I don't know how rusted it would get, but it could start something. And could you please not use that little shrugging emoticon in every single post it make? It's incredibly annoying.

I wouldn't worry about rust. Either they've used stainless steel or steel covered with something to prevent oxidation, or they've left the steel unprotected, in which case they want it to rust. Unprotected steel will develop a layer of rust naturally in ordinary rainwater, let alone saltwater.

Rust isn't a big deal. Once a layer of rust forms, it protects the metal underneath.

New York has a maritime climate and is very close to large expanses of sea-water. The brine will get transported in fine droplet form by the ordinary wind. Therefore, any exposed steel is likely to rust - hurricane or no hurricane - and I guess that the designers of 1WTC and the memorial will be well aware of that. I would expect though that after spray caused by hurricane force winds, all surfaces, including glazing, will be covered in a thickness of salt which will keep the window cleaners busy for a few days.

I dunno lol, but they name the hurricanes after the time of the hurricane season it arises from. Like Katrina came around the early middle of the 05 Hurricane season. It looks like Irene is coming near the late-beginning of this hurricane season :p

Cuz when they come, they're wet and wild. But when they leave, they take your house and car.

They used to be all female but not anymore.
They name them more or less randomly, but they are asigned within years of anticipation, by now, the names of the hurricanes of the years to come are all already choosen. The names choosen go from A to Z, so the first hurricane of the season is named with an "A" name (ej. Anna) the second with a "B" name an so on.
Those names repeat after some years, unless a hurricane is very destructive, in that case they retire that name, as the baseball teams do with the numbers of outstanding players.

Thanks for the information. But what if there are more then 26 hurricanes that season? Do they restart with A? Or do they keep doing Z names?

It's extremely rare and only happened in 2005, they then started going Alpha, Beta...
