That mobile crane must be 40 stories tall!

What worries me most is the cranes at the top. The wind will be about 20% to 30% stronger than at the ground level.

From National Hurricane Center:

Quote:
MORE SO THAN WITH MOST STORMS...THE WINDS WITH IRENE INCREASE
SHARPLY WITH HEIGHT ABOVE THE SURFACE. AS IRENE MOVES THROUGH
AREAS WITH HIGH-RISE STRUCTURES...THESE BUILDINGS COULD EXPERIENCE
WINDS SIGNIFICANTLY STRONGER THAN THE SURFACE WINDS. WINDS AT THE
30-STORY LEVEL WILL LIKELY BE 20 PERCENT HIGHER THAN AT THE
SURFACE...AND WINDS 80-100 STORIES UP COULD BE ABOUT 30 PERCENT
HIGHER THAN AT THE SURFACE.
I hope there will not be too much damage and that the construction will resume quickly after the storm.

I just heard that glass windows will start to break out at around 85 mph winds. That means at windspeeds of 70 mph at ground level, windows could start to break 80 stories up.

Breathtaking images from then and now of lower Manhattan reveal how much New York has changed since 9/11

As an Englishman in New York, it was nice to experience a typical British Summers days weather today. Goodbye Irene. You were a pain in the ass

So true ... although Britain has a better summer than the Dutch.

It was lit so bright last night. Or maybe it was just so dark the light stood out more? Lol. Anyways, every single shot on tv that could see the lower manhattan skyline had WTC standing out so brightly.
