Otie, it isn't supposed to look like (or be) an obelisk, right?

From some angles it is supposed to resemble the Washington Monument.

That's probably meant to go with the whole "freedom tower" theme, isn't it? I must say I'm glad they aren't officially calling it that any more, it all seemed so silly.

Still feels weird not seeing the Twin Towers which dominated the skyline.

Looking at those clips, 1 WTC is actually a pretty pale shadow of what was there.

It is not complete, though. I know there are renders of the building, but they don't give the same perspective.

Pretty much every angle from which the outline of the building is made up by the slanted sides of the facade.

Give the new WTC some time. Remember that the Twins were hated at first.

If you rotate the tower 45° you'll quite notice the tapering.

They reason why they don't stand out as much is because they are not bold, uninspiring concrete boxes. We miss the people who died inside them not the buildings. If they were still here many of you would be wishing they were getting demolished. We miss the towers but for the reason they went not their architecture.

i don't know why, as a skyscraper that made a NYC skyline, IMO there's nothing special with this tower, not such as stunning as a former twin tower WTC that dominated the NYC skyline. maybe NYC didn't want to build a new landmark after twin tower. maybe the landmark is the ground zerro park. the new WTC tower it self, by design, is a regular tower that i can see in a not major cities in the rest of the earth...can't waiting to see the pilgrims enjoy this site....

Hi Hull.

Your opinion is as important as anyones. Mine is completely opposite of yours.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not pining for the twins to be rebuilt. This project along with the others being built here are going to be great landmarks and worthy replacements for the structures that were lost but I for one would NOT be wishing for the twins to be demolished.

Ray.

I've noticed the tapering already. What I fail to see is the resemblance of an obelisk... What do you think? ^^

No, the Port Authority datum which is something like 300 feet below low tide at Battery Park in Lower Manhattan. For short hand, think of it as 300 feet below sea level, making the lobby 11 feet above the water.

If the North entrance is a significant, open air, pedestrian entrance then you are probably correct in assuming that floor will be the starting point for the 3 official CTBUH measures.
Yes, the north entrance on to Vesset St will count under current guidelines.

Perhaps the 8 foot piece is to be considered removable. If so then the 1787 would be the height to pinnacle and the 1779 the height to arch. top.
No, it's not removable. It's a permanent piece of structure and will count under official guidelines. The building will be 1,787 feet tall.
