Trip to the Construction Site

Hello everyone, I was at The site today and there is a lot , I mean A LOT of activity there. As far as a vantage point to watch, there really isn't one that I found. To many things and fences in the way. Believe me when I say this, It's a lot better to watch the development on this web site or from the web cam. This was the first time I visited there since the tragic day and I was very moved. I hope to go there again in the spring of next year.
Keep those pictures coming guys they are the best.

Thanks,
Lance

Those cranes are from Liebherr's HC-L series. more info about them can be found here: http://www.liebherr.com/cc/en/34298.asp
They'll increase the height of it by placing new sections in the mast (the black painted part of this crane), but it's also possible to let the crane climb in a lift shaft.

Two more of those tower cranes will be added in November. At one point, there will be over 30 tower cranes in that small section of lower Manhattan

They are actually FAVELLE-FAVCO cranes.. either 440 or 600D's.... they run on diesel..... they were most likely made at the FAVELLE factory in Texas..

NEW YORK Crane owns quite a few FAVS... and yes they will climb through to the towers whether they be concrete or steel... the base plate at the moment is for lifting through steel... but that could change.

They are great cranes... and Australian invention... Both the WTC towers were built with some of the orginal models... they called them Kangaroos Cranes!!

It's great to finally see real progress in here, however I'm familiar with very different building techniques, so I can't make out what's really going on in there.

Tag_one, abc - thanks for the crane info. The Liebherr HC-L look similar to the Favelle ones. Does the red base support move up the black sections as the crane height is increased?

I think the spire is quite normal looking. If compared to the old spire, it hasn't got too much differences. And this spire shouldn't be counted to the official hight. But if they do count it, they mention the hight to the roof too.

a spire is no antenna, so it counts to the height. when you let out this spire in counting you've to let out every spire in the world!

Regaurdless if it's a spire or an antenna, it is still structual height in that it's not occupied hence its cheating.
