What would exactly be 'the oppposite of an obelisk'? The idea here is that 1WTC gives the illusion of a pyramidal shape, the base being larger than the top, just like an obelisk minus the smaller pyramid on the top.

That's true. To me it looks like a perfect obelisk

I'm so glad you asked. Notice how an obelisk has its tip at the center? Not so with Freedom Tower, whose tip is at the base. Obelisks are really tall non-rectangular trapezoids.

http://www.history.com/videos/design...-freedom-tower

Perhaps outdated, but it still gives some insight...

"But rather than tapering the building as an obelisk does...We decided to pitch it in on its corners."

Are there any plans of what they are going to use to clad the base? I have heard some rumors but nothing official..

Just like i said a couple of months ago that height of 1 wtc is a representation of the original twins, the building is a memorial to the fallen towers while the pools are a memorial to all the lives that where lost.

- ATTENTION FORUMERS -

I know a big anniversary is coming up and there's a lot of OFF-TOPIC stuff you'd like to post. PLEASE DON'T DO THAT IN THIS THREAD. There's an entire subforum here: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=458 that's devoted to any and all World Trade Center discussion (within reason!) PLEASE POST ANYTHING UNRELATED TO THIS ACTUAL PROJECT THERE. Off topic posts in this thread are subject to deletion and continued off-topic behaviors are subject to further action!

Thanks in advance.

September 11 is almost near. I condole to all the families of all the victims who died during that tragic day. May Peace finally rule this chaotic world!

Absolutely beautiful pictures! I think im about to cry :') Will that stunning green grass eventually cover all of the ground around the pools? and will that roadway between the WTC and the World Financial Center be fixed? It looks a bit curvy and the barren (no landscaping) compared to the rest of it.. or is it meant to be that way??
