Cocoon is going up. Cannot wait for the next jump. I have a question: On about the 90th floor, in some renders the cladding looks stripy, like on the first couple floors of 4 WTC. Is that what it is? Just special cladding for mechanical floors?

I believe (not knowing where these start...) the stripes you're referring to are like the vents on 4WTC. I don't know for sure. Probably for mechanical floors and airflow...

Correct me otherwise.

The weather forecast says its going to be a wet one next couple of days back here in the big apple, so progress might get slowed down.

Those are beautiful, kt! I love how Tower 1 and 7 blend in so well.

Those renders have the old communication ring design. I'm glad they changed it, this old one looks like an ashtray. Is there actually a purpose to the ring on top of the roof or is it just for aesthetics?

You are hands down the biggest pessimist on this forum DFD.

7WTC just leased up. Silverstein will now be focusing on towers 3 and 4. Those will fill up, and then its on to Tower 2. T2 may not be finished till the end of this decade. But we ain't gonna be in hover cars when its all done.

"The tower culminates at 1368 feet, the height of the 1970 north tower, above which stands a 145-foot diameter communication ring holding communication antennae and the 408-foot spire and beacon." (Emphasis mine).

@Patrick: The most recent renders by the developer reflect a double array of microwave transmitters mounted to the ring. To a great extent, the design will answer commercial demand - both now and in the future. It's not unusual for the lease of space and support for communications equipment to call for a periodic reconfiguration, so any given array at any point in time is seldom really 'final'.

I wonder how many redesigns we'll gonna see before towers 2 and 3 are built. Probably they will be a lot different than they are now
