Agreed, the name is silly for a tower sitting on top of a 20 storey bunker, which will likely have the highest security restrictions of any building short of a nuclear power plant.

I am sure the name will fall into disuse almost immediately or be used ironically, when visitors find they're going to be subject to search and surveillance beyond what they could have imagined for a public office building.

That is perhaps the only reason I don't love this building 100%.

In the diagram (by CULWULLA): I counted 20 levels to go T/O. Is that true?

Can someone please explain to me how the floor numbering works? Because after level 93 I see a jump to level 100. And then from 103 to 108 with only one floor in between.

Is it the diagram or is it something else? I would love to know if someone can explain this to me

It's not the diagram, it's the insanity of the developers. For some weird reason they decided to skip some floor numbers

The only possible explanation I can give is that floor numbering doesnt count per se and that floors are numbered based on how many floors the tower would fit if they all were equal in size and space. For example mechanical floors are considerably bigger than the normal ones. Thats the only reason I can think of anyway.

But still it looks silly to me... why make the jump from 93 to 100, ok so the building wont have 108 floors...so what? I mean it looks like math fail to me.

Anyways, 1WTC looks absolutely beautiful and I cant wait to visit!

Why? that's built to save lives, something that could've saved lives in 1993

From a purely aesthetics point of view, the base sucks. Huge concrete walls with a few slits to allow some natural light through. From outside it will be very nice I imagine. But from inside it's not very open and inviting.

From a practical and security sense, it's excellent. But it's very unfortunate that we have to build an office building with such requirements.

I don't see anything so much wrong with the base, from a security point of view. The 9/11 incidence created the path for security concerns in the United States.

Do you think that I don't know that?

If the concrete "bunker" is so important, why don't all of the new WTC Towers get one?

I wasn't referring to the base in my previous post, but rather the tight security around it.

The sad fact is that 1 wtc is a bunker because it is a target. I know some folks would have rather not built on the site, but i think the intent of that horrible morning was to do just that. Building there along west street, means it has to sit atop a fortified structure to avoid attack by car/truck bomb. Why do you think the base is angled outwards? It's to catch the blast & get the office floors out of harm's way.

That said, i really do wish it was much taller. I was never a fan of rebuilding as it was, but they could have had the roof or obs at 1776 feet instead of the top of the spire. The height at the top of the spire is meaningless compared to a height visitors can walk around at. The spire should have been 2001 feet 9.11 inches.

I 1000% agree with you, it should have been taller but from what I know there just wasn't enough money for the PA to make it taller. Still I would make it like 2 meters taller than it is simply to be taller than the Twins were

And I also 1000% agree that not rebuilding the WTC would be a sign of defeat by terrorists. Building this new WTC is a sign of strength and victory That's why I like the new WTC so much, even though I wanted the Twins rebuilt. I'm proud that I can witness this historical time of a new WTC rising

Btw, it looks like cladding will soon pass 7WTC
