If you look at the top floor inside the blue scaffolding in KenfromJersey's pic, you can see that some work remains to be done until they can start a new one..

Wow, someone is uptight. What so 'off topic' about comparing 1WTC with other buildings in NYC? Its not like we're talking about cricket here.

But he's right. I do not see anything wrong here...

440 Park Av looks like it would give way in a Hurricane.

Someone stated on SSC page that Tower Verre looks like its giving the middle finger when viewing from the top of 1WTC in STR render he posted.

Yup, comparison between 1WTC and other NYC buildings is perfectly okay in this thread

The last official height for 440 Park was 1350 feet, anything above this height is pure speculation.

Wow, if this and all the other proposed supertalls go through, NY could have 15 supertalls. Add the existing or proposed supertalls across the country, the US could have 28 supertalls.

walked around Dumbo and Brooklyn Heights plus crossed the Brooklyn Bridge.

The WTC 1 does NOT impress from Brooklyn. It is just too small. It will always be overwhelmed by the Beekman Tower.

WTC 2 and WTC 3 are musts for there to be any chance of this project to look decent. And even then the best place to view the WTC complex is likely to be Jersey City.

I know it is pointless grumbling but they really did make WTC1 too small. F&#!

Dude it's not even topped out yet. When it's all done it will certainly have a presence when viewed from Brooklyn.

Doesn't matter. It is way too skinny. The tapering is killing it. No way does this dominate the lower Manhattan skyline the way EACH of the old twins did.

It just lacks the heft to dominate. If they really wanted to do the tapering and still have an imposing building the base probably should have been at least 240 feet on each side.

Anyways, I know this isn't changing. I am just pointing out my fears about this are sadly coming true when you actually look at the building.

I think you'll be surprised when the rest of the towers join in how much more the new complex will dominate. We're talking more or less FOUR supertall office towers lined up one after the other. Nowhere else in the world will you find that much bulk/height combined into one spot. The closest you can get is Dubai's marina city and Abraj Al-Bait.

no, it is a pretty big difference. The twins were about 208 on a side I believe. This is about 200 at the base but at the top is something like 140 a side due to tapering. Where are now is probably equivalent to 150 or 160 and you definitely notice it is smaller.

Just have to hope WTC 2 and WTC 3 get built soon and compensate.

It's not way too skinny, and the tapering is not "killing" it, that's serious hyperbole. This building certainly will dominate by its sheer height, and if you actually walk up to it, you'll realize how massive it is too, despite it tapering at the top.

I agree. The true test will be when all the towers are up. Lets hope they don't get delayed.
