The WTC 1 does NOT impress from Brooklyn. It is just too small. It will always be overwhelmed by the Beekman Tower.

WTC 2 and WTC 3 are musts for there to be any chance of this project to look decent. And even then the best place to view the WTC complex is likely to be Jersey City.

I know it is pointless grumbling but they really did make WTC1 too small. F&#!
Awww, how sad for you. Didn't dominate enough, boo hoo.

I agree however, they should have built the freedom tower with an enclosed spire structure up to 1776 to give the appearance of a taller building. Something like the Shanghai Tower has. The one thing I hate about the building is the stupid spire and antenna structure. It looks like it doesn't belong.

The twins were more imposing because they were bigger at the top and there were 2. However, they were brutish and domineering. I prefer class and style over brute force, so I'll take this modern glassy complex over those overgrown 1970 ugly government buildings that were the twins.

If all the buildings were as supreme as the London Shard or Shanghai Tower in design terms, then I'd be happy. Since we have a cluster of boxes for the most part, they should have been taller to make a statement. We live in a world of finance so I'm not too unhappy. I still think it was a weak attempt. I'd think the Freedom tower should have had a roof height of 2000 feet, and everything else be augmented too. However, at the very least, the facades bring a more modern appearance which NY needs to update its image for the 21st century.

Exactly, Beekman Tower does take some of the spotlight away from Tower 1 but we'll wait and see because isn't topped out yet. Plus this Tower is further back than the Twin Towers were when viewed from Brooklyn so 1 WTC will appear shorter than the Twin Towers at that point due to it being more to the West. Well some people will have differing opinions, they'll say the Tower is big, others will say it is small. The fact is people haven't seen a building of this scale in New York in 10 years so of course this Tower will appear large to them. I personally feel the height we are getting is enough because it is all we have since they took away the outdoor deck and restaurant so the height is the only thing I'm looking forward to in addition to the cladding, which I think is coming along nicely.

That is a cool render STR!

Wow, 440 Park could be an eyesore! One57 looks good, though, as do the other prososed towers! http://xua.me/uH

Beekman in the foreground so it's suppose to have that effect. We all know Beekman isn't bigger or taller than 1 WTC.

Absolutely, this building is definitely the child of the Twin Towers and we're watching her grow up

I think the design on this is better than shard and shanghai tower. Pyramid and spiral designs have and are being done in lots of places, but WTC 1 is a unique and ingenious shape, though I think a glass roof rising to an apex rather than that spire it would be better.

Btw, sorry for my disastrous effort at quoting.
