Well, I hate glass structures. I call them fake buildings because they have the form of a building but are completely useless. However, you might find interesting that earlier concepts of 1WTC had glass structures in it. Take a look at this evolution of 1WTC:

Btw time for a WTC progress update:

^Well this one doesn't exclude glass structures, the roof is at El. 1334' 8" from main lobby floor while the parapet extends to El. 1368'... So the parapet is 33' 4" high.

It looks like such fake roofs are a fashion now. 3WTC and 4WTC will have them, Goldman Sachs next to 1WTC has it. That's bad but at least they look like real roofs from the ground

Btw, I noticed that STR and SSP in the 1WTC thread says the roof parapet will extend to 1373 feet while SSC and SSP diagrams say it'll extend to 1368 feet. Now I heared both heights are true from a certain measurement but wouldn't it be good to synchronize the data and decide which one of these two figures will be used?

I preferred the first version more than the current one, more original, of course it could be higher.

They removed a piece of the corner cladding and 2 windows this morning. I wonder why? Curious if it has something to do with the node above?

I always liked the 4 design proposal plus it would have been a 2000 footer and, as for the Brooklyn view i believe their are going to some spots of Brooklyn that 1 wtc can still be seen, if any of guys can please show a rendering if their is an area.

I actually hate the previous designs. They look like monstrosities and the hollow glass structures make the tower look like its top is already collapsed, which brings unpleasant 9/11-memories.

Good grief, Kanto. The parapets are there to hide the mechanical equipment on top. If it wasn't there, you'd see all of the HVAC equipment. On Goldman Sachs you'd see their water towers as well. Just get over the roof height thing, it'll be good for your health.

I would have been fine with that design if they had extended the floors to 1368', and used the mesh structure for the remaining 650'. Plop an outdoor observation deck on top of that. Now THAT would have been something. Ah well. What we're getting is great.

I also would have been fine with Foster's original twin tower proposal from years ago. Those would have been icons as well.

Shanghai. Pudong. Get a clue.

haha i know right?

I guess people are saying that due to the spire resemblance (but still doesnt look like north tower to me! )

the north and south tower were truly elegant in their own aspect and cant be compared to the new aged supertall rising here at the moment..

and once WTC 2 and WTC 3 are completed, I'm sure the people who claim that 'Lower manhattan skyline would still not be dominated by WTC's' would have to think again! GO LOWER MANHATTAN!

I know you quoted me. But I'll never say the twin towers, look better than 1WTC. Because that would be a outright lie.

Uaarkson is talking about "bulk/height combined into one spot". Well, Pudong.

Yeah I guess Pudong will be giving LM a run for its money in that regard, but I still think the WTC will be the more striking cluster.
