Just saw this earthcam link on SSP.

It has several different angles of the WTC site.

So, the big flag came down, which is fine.

My question is, what the heck is all that black covered scaffolding doing on the outside of the building? It's been there for months, but I haven't a clue as to what it is or why they need it there.

It's covering the mechanical floors of the building. I assume it was done for aesthetic reasons; mostly to cover the vents for those mechanical floors.

Eventually that will be covered up; with what is anyone's guess at this point since they decided that the original plan of using prismatic glass wasn't technically feasible.

It's probably in preparation for the cladding they're going to put on the base this winter.

Hey guys here are some photos I took today from JFK. If you could look in the distance you can see lower Manhattan in the distance and the new 1WTC standing out among the rest of the NYC skyline. Can't wait to see it finished

Does anyone know how many pieces the spire is split into? Like how many pieces will they assemble to construct the whole thing? I know it can't all be in one piece..

^The radome will be assembled in 20 foot sections (some of these will be actually higher). This enclosure will have a folded-plate assembly of 2'6" thick fiberglass-and-foam sandwich panels.

I think so too. Is there currently work going on behind the black scaffolding in preparation for the cladding?

The LM skyline is really getting serious again. I think in a few years, no one will ever leave NYC out of the 'greatest skylines' discussion ever again.
