Probably would have been a better idea to not start the thread with provocative statements, but hopefully this thread can stay on topic.

Can someone repost the most recent pictures? I'm not very skilled at posting images.

I dont know why they made it only 541m with such a long spire,
shanghai tower is 632m and taller than it without spire, i really want NYC has a supertall with that height.

You have to take a lot more in to consideration than simply how tall you possibly *could* build a building.

A: You can go past that with special permission

B: 1WTC could have still been taller, especially to the roof and been under 2000'

Look | Top of the World Trade Center in Fall

By Stephen Nessen

WNYC began visiting the World Trade Center site in April 2010 and continues to document the construction of One World Trade Center, the 9/11 Memorial, the transportation hub and the people working on the site.

Heavy winds at the top of One World Trade Center have impinged on work these last few weeks, and on this recent day it brought work to a standstill.

Iron worker Michael O'Reilly, 36, said when the seasons change from winter to spring and summer to fall, the winds pick up and make work slow at the top. And if work at the top is stalled, it can slow progress at the rest of the site. On this day, concrete was poured up to the 84th floor and structural steel is up to the 86th floor.

2000 feet is no problem. They could have just gotten permission for it and built it that way. It might be interesting to you folks that initialy 1WTC was about to be 2000 feet tall, first to the fake roof, later to the spire however they later changed it when because of the NYPD they decided to make the building stronger and safer and because of Libeskind's screaming they incorporated the pointless 1776 feet into it. Below are the two designs which should have reached 2000 feet. The second one is by Childs and the first one is a colaboration between Childs and Libeskind which was a result of their flame war:

Btw, time for some more pics

Both of those 2000 ft. proposals induce vomiting in me. I wish to never see them again!

But that would be too much to ask for in this thread, wouldn't it?

I can't wait until they finish the office floors. Only one more steel jump! What height will it be at then?

After the next jump 1WTC will be 335 meters or 1100 feet tall

Note: I used the final roof height 418 meters or 1371 feet that Otie gave me

Btw, Uaarkson, I agree with you, the 2 earlier Freedom towers are disgusting

Awesome. I really can't wait for the base cladding. They're going with that glass "fins" idea aren't they? Or was that just speculation?

Kanto, 1776 ft height may be pointless to you but to many Americans i can assure you it is not "pointless"

Two serious and reliable sources confirm it.

ArchitecturalRecord

The alternate, which sources describe as glass fins projecting from the facade at various angles, is now in the bidding phase but has yet to be finalized.
Scientific American article
Quote:
“This new design is completely different,” Tollner says. “It’s going to have glass fins, and they will have a very nice reflective quality. They’re not going to be completely flat against the building, and they’ll have a frosted texture behind. When they light up the building from within you’ll get some interesting patterns.”

Yup, the MTVA deal was broken a few years ago... Although these floors will be leased as office space, broadcasting equipment will still be integrated on those floors.

1776 to America is what 1989 is to us. But I consider the number 1989 pointless too because if its not reffering to a year but for example to a building's height it's just a number like any other. I never understood why people try to see symbols in numbers. A number is just a number, nothing more and nothing less

But now back to topic. I wonder if the concrete base will be at all visible or if the glass will be identical to the glass above it so that none can tell where the base ends. I personaly would like to see different glass there. The concrete base is such a unique design feature and I just love to see it there
