Thanks everybody for posting pictures of the progress. It's a lot of fun to see the progress of the ground zero area.

Does anyone know if there will be a observation deck on the top ? or inside ?

Twin Towers were unique.

Ah! I see what you're getting at now.

Not that I want to take anything away from the Twin Towers, they were taller versions of the most modern Skycrapers of the time ie. Seagram Building. Having said that, building two tallest towers side-by-side was Symbolic & Very American

Speaking as a non-architect, just difficult to think of an alternative to the buildings being constructed. Like most actual-architects I guess

Yeah kind of disappointing, I was hoping to see it taking shape next year. Another year of looking at that bunker, oh well.

I'm disappointed they haven't even begun to manufacture the base cladding yet. For some reason I was under the impression it had been underway and we would see the first panels installed within a few months but I guess if it doesn't delay completion it's fine.

Looks like it's almost at roof height. Great pics.

I still can't believe how big this is in person.

It would be great if someone had taken a picture of this tower from day 1 and when it is completed, they put them all together in fast forward

Lulz, wait until the whole complex is done. It will be massive. I think people underrate how massive and big this will be. It are virtually four supertalls, and two skyscrapers. Which is massive. And given the already built buildings, this could be one of the most amazing clusters in the whole world. AND it's "only" one of many skylines in that area.

Well the building won't be complete for another year or two anyway, so why all the fuss over the base?

More likely, the reason why it hasn't been installed is because the original glass they were going to use failed the blast testing and they are having to use another system.

http://www.myfoxny.com/dpp/news/port...r-20110512-apx

It doesn't get into specifics in this article, but since this facade is outside of the hardened concrete barrier in the attrium, it is intended to be destroyed by any significant street level blast. The concrete barrier would then prevent any of the glass from flying into the attrium. However, they don't want the glass to fragment into shards, but to turn into small pellets, like when a car window is busted. It's my understanding that the original facade was not doing this well enough.

It might be true that they don't want it damaged during construction, but I don't think this facade is any more likely to be damaged than the remainer of the facade that is already in place.
