Love the glass, but I'm sort of sad to see that the design of the base is changing slightly so that it won't show off the triangles at the base. Not that the new design looks bad though.

I'm about to get pissed. What the **** are they thinking, turning the base back into a cube?

I actually think 2 WTC will have more of an impact on the lower manhattan skyline than 1 WTC...Nethertheless, both look world class

It's disappointing to see just a square cube at the bottom. I really liked the chamfered corners. Still, the glass is pretty damn good. I just wish they'd kept the original shape...

In my opinion 1WTC looks far better with a cube base. I never liked those base triangles

You're nuts.

They're just renderings, don't worry. Do you really think they would give up the chamfered corners, "intended as a subtle homage to the chamfered corners of the original Twin Towers"?

The new base cladding also sort of represents the old WTC facade

Yea this sucks if the triangle corners are left out, they are subtle but i believe crucial to the design.

No, we've already learned this lesson with tower 3. Why would the Port Authority approve and release renderings with such an obvious flaw? Believe me, I desperately want to be wrong about this.

There are no errors on those renderings, chamfered corners are gone... I reserve to add my thoughts about it.

I would rather contact SOM (designer) & Permasteelisa(manufacturer). The PA just takes the contracting part.

SOM November 2011 Fact sheet

Quote:
The tower rises from a podium wall base whose square plan – 200 feet by 200 feet – is the same
size as the footprints of the original Twin Towers. The podium wall base is 186 feet tall and consists
of vertical laminated glass fins and horizontal stainless steel slats. The more than 4000 glass fins,
each measuring 13 feet 4 inches by two feet, are positioned at varying angles in a regular pattern
over the height of the podium. This pattern both accommodates ventilation for the mechanical levels
behind the podium wall, and in combination with a reflective coating refracts and transmits light to
create a dynamic, shimmering glass surface.
