It will take them a half year to build the spire but take into consideration that they can't start spire construction before the concrete core has been topped out and it's 10 floors behind the steel

the spire isnt small. its a huge structure photos from Otie

the 125m structure will be hoisted up in 9 segments
Rieser’s firm devised a 411-foot-4-inch-tall mast with a base and seven stacked sections that gradually decrease in diameter (an eighth section contains an illuminated beacon whose enclosure marks a point 441 feet 4 inches above the roof slab and the 1,776-foot elevation). The mast sections, which range from 40 feet to just over 100 feet long, have different shapes and rely on different fabrication methods. For example, some sections will have 20 sides, others only four. Some will be made of steel plate with cutout zones so that equipment can be inserted, while others will have latticelike construction, affording equipment attachment points. Cast-steel connectors will allow for transition between adjacent sections with differing geometries.

i fixed up spire to more accurate details/ its max 8.1m dia. huge
also added ESB for comparison
image hosted on flickr

interesting to note. the mast structure above roof on ESB = 320m+ 129m=449m.
the new 1wtc spire =135m. thats means its taller then upper section of ESB.

The glass looks really good. It's standing out a little more now that its passed 7 WTC. On another note, its been literally almost a month since they raised steel. Its nice to see the glass and core catching up, but I really hope they put up another 2-3 floors soon. Maybe tomorrow, who knows?

As far as i'm concerned the base won't be clad until at least 2013, so don't wait on it.
