^Actually, this skyscraper averages about 1 floor every week-week and a half. It is only recently that it slowed down vertically because they were working on a mechanical floor.

Well said. Some reason in this conversation!

Overall I prefer Gehry's Beekman Tower to any of the new WTC 'scrapers as it's more of a symbol of the evolution of the iconic New York Skyscraper as defined by the early examples, i.e. Woolworth and a bit later Chrysler.
If only he had the courage to put a roof on it - that would be something!
1 WTC is more like the typical glass and steel 'scrapers you see all over the world these days.

This project was always more about restoration than replacement.

This tower looks AMAZING from the rockaways. It really is now dominating the way the towers used to. I'd take some pics when I have the time.

Question: i have friend fom Toronto whos coming over in the 13th and I would like to show him the place. Is the park still open to the public or have they closed it?

Thanks! Frankly its just that lately I've been really bothered that people still put this project down, or make a claim without fully understanding what's going on (Not that the person I originally responded to was saying that, not at all).

I used to be a "restore the Twins" supporter until I set foot in that memorial on 9/11 this year (I really should put those pics up sometime, don't know why I haven't), and at that moment it all came into perspective. In particular, 1 WTC, even though incomplete, still filled me with as much awe as the Twins did when I was a kid, which was a surprising revelation. To me, this is New York's new icon, and I'm glad it's turning out how it is. And knowing I'll still be able to visit the Twins whenever I want and pay my respects is a great feeling to have, for sure.

This is going to be a signature viewing angle from Jersey.

Didnt know Jersey had train stations that looked like something that would belong in Japan.

I have a new version of my diagram with new updated height of 1WTC and 157

Roof height used below!

1WTC = 347 meters or 1138 feet out of 418 meters or 1371 feet
4WTC = Approximately 217 meters or 712 feet out of 298 meters or 977 feet Important note: The height of 4WTC shown in the diagram is wrong, I draw it when it was thought that 4WTC already has steel for the first two setback floors! This was later shown to not be true but I already edited the drawing! The height that is stated here (below the diagram) is the right one!
157 = Approximately 169 meters or 554 feet out of 306 meters or 1005 feet

(Note: I used the 418 meter figure for 1WTC when measured from the lowest above ground entrance and I used the 298 meter figure for 4WTC.)

Btw, with this new jump 1WTC has beaten the Aon Center and John Hancock Tower and is now the 4th tallest in the US
