I don't hate spires in general, for example I like ESB's spire (which in fact is an antenna) and I like Burj Khalifa's spire. But I don't like 1WTC's spire because it's too huge and the ring in ugly too. And although a good crown looks good (like Tower Verre's, Shanghai Tower's or that of Lotte Super Tower) a more boxy building like 1WTC looks better without one. Just a flat roof for 1WTC and it would be perfect

The spire in this case is important because it provides a major visual link to its predecessor. The original WTC would not have been the same without the north tower's large antenna.

let me point out the antenna, is on top of ESB spire. I don't see anything wrong with the spire on this building.

Well, that's just my opinion, I personaly think the Twins would have looked better without the North Tower having it's antanna as well

Btw, kingsc, that top "observation tower" part of the ESB is not a spire, it's part of the building because there is a non mechanical floor on its top

In my option both of the twins had to have an antenna.
Either both towers with antenna, or both towers without antenna.
@One WTC: I've said it already before: OWTC's spire is plain and simple oversized. It should be built smaller. Just the way I think.

Here's the North Tower before it had an antenna in 1977. The antenna wasn't installed until 1978.

I think the building looked better after the antenna was installed, rather than having that smaller thing (I assume it's some sort of antenna?) that was on top of the North Tower's roof for the first 5 years.

I find it weird and retarded how people say that they dislike 1 World Trade, but the next sentence say they want two of them. I don't get it. Anyway..the base looks cool.: http://url9.de/h93

They're really taking way too long to erect more steel. At this rate they won't reach the top of the roof until the end of the friggin year!

You're right about that. And there hasn't been any real snow yet to speak of. I hope they step it up.

Maybe they need to catch up on some other work first, like the core. It'll probably start shooting up all at once.

It's a shame that they have to build a new tower for the WTC. I must say that I think the design is really cool. The construction also looks better than when I was there back in June. Is it just me or is the construction of the entire project taking too long?

I'm surprised no one mentioned the fact that 1WTC is 1776ft which is the exact year of American Independence. Anyone?
