It's not 1,776ft tall anyway, as we all know the final height is going to be 1787ft. CTBUH will certainly change all the important height marks (observatory, roof, parapet, ring platform, spire) once the tower is T/O.

@One WTC: I've said it already before: OWTC's spire is plain and simple oversized. It should be built smaller. Just the way I think.
Yeah but then you would have had to wear special glasses to watch TV or listen to the radio.......which, back then would have seemed ridiculous ?.....specially to listen to radio !

You're right, the current progress is extremely slow. I wonder what causes these enormous delays?

Well, I hope you're right. Maybe they wanna decrease the ammount of floors the concrete core is behind steel though I dunno why would they do it. Then again, I'm not an engineer so me not knowing it isn't anything unusual, LOL

I'm all for TTTB (the taller, the better), but in this case, I believe the height of the spire should be lowered so the building's height comes to exactly 1776 ft. A height of 1787 ft (or whatever it comes to after T.O.) just isn't as appealing as 1776, personally.

Absolutely true, and David Childs has mentioned this during interviews.

Especially on his latest interview on the Charlie Rose show where he mentions "looking at it from the side, you'll see the profile of the old building".

Gee, and I thought Tower 1 would hit 1,200 feet by the end of 2011 lol. Well we've had some nice weather and the construction workers have not taken advantage of that. They only put up floor 89 so far so who knows what the delay is. What's even more complicated is just how long those big mechanical floors will take because we have 91, 92, 92M, 93, 93M, followed by the three observatory levels, then 103, 104, and 105, which is the roof. Well we came this far so something will happen eventually. I'm just glad this Tower isn't using nearly as much steel as each Twin Tower had otherwise this would take even longer to get done.

They started (steel) construction of the North Tower in August 1968, topped out December 1970, with completion in 1972, so technically the Twins took less time to build. This doesn't include the two years from 1966 to 1968 that it took to demolish and excavate Radio Row, dig the bathtub, and pour the foundations. The South Tower was built along the same timeline, with (steel) construction commencing in January 1969, topping out July 1971, and completion in early 1973.

Then again, the Twins were relatively simple buildings (from an engineering perspective) compared to One WTC. Not as much had to go into them to construct them; no reinforced concrete core to cure, prefabricated steel decking and curtain wall sections that were assembled off-site and lifted into place, and so on.

Don't be a smart ass. The last couple of weeks prior to Christmas there was not a whole lot of progress. We're not stupid enough to think they work on holidays.

Well, these things take time, I'd rather they take their time and do it right as opposed to half-assing it and putting up a building that no one will want to visit, work in, or feel safe in.

By the way, that line "One Step Closer to Heaven" is from Max Payne. It was very apropos to the feeling of working 99 floors up in an iconic skyscraper. I miss that feeling.

Anyone know the exact height of this yet? Does it still have about 200 feet to go until the roof?
