What the wall street article is saying is that a interior antenna will be installed and the outer cone casing will be thinner and less conical then the original design and from what,i am hearing through the grape vine is that the Radome will be removed.

THE SPIRE IS NOT CANCELLED.

What is being redesigned is the outer, essentially casing of what is an entirely mechanical antenna that would look like the original WTCs spire. Completely mechanical.

What it looks like is happening is the spiraling enclosure that hides the hideous mechanical antenna is being redesigned because the material the one weve seen, would be made of a material that would need to be maintained, which is a tough to do.

I have an incredibly hard time believing that SOM is not going to fight this. I would imagine that SOM will design a new enclosure for the antenna that works with the tower instead of having a metal pole plopped on top. Read the article before. Otie posted some great renders a couple pages back which show what is happening.
So I got it right, the antenna inside the spire will still be there, only the outer (fat) spire layer got cancelled and will be either replaced by a different spire layer (hopefuly not fat) or maybe there'll be no spire layer at all, just a thin antenna. Hopefully it will be so thin that it'll be nearly unnoticable like which the North Tower had shortly after it was built

I would be utterly dumbfounded if SOM made no effort to redesign the spire so that it still works with the rest of the structure, architecturally speaking.

People who don't like the spire say it would look better without it and without the communications ring. But that's not how it works. If they remove the architectural part of the spire, you will still have that horribly ugly antenna. @Kanto: You said you like the North Tower's antenna. Me too. But if they remove the architectural part of the spire it will not look like the North Tower's antenna, it will look like the ugly Conde Nast antenna.

Really hope they reconsider, this complex is worth so much more than to sacrifice everything good about it to the trash heap.

Btw, I just made a quick pic how 1WTC would look like without the ring and the spire and I can tell ya, that it looks a thousand times better than with what you'd call "visionary architecture elements" (I'd call the ring and the spire uglifying elements)

i am pretty hopeful that 1wtc antenna will have a casing over it it will just be a little thinner and probably be made of a cheaper material.

^Not as expensive as the Durst people say, contract made between Port Authority and IBK /DCM was valuated in $17,199,000USD.

No you did not get it right! He said that they will be designing the casing with a new material, that means the actual look of the antenna may not change at all but just the material.

Maybe you should reading over stuff twice? Would help you a lot I think!

The old spire design really complimented the tower and the communication ring, hopefully any new design will be similar.

They should build one that is like super tall. Since terrorism is not that rampant now.

I hope they can integrate the new broadcast antenna into the same design so it looks the same as in the renders. It looks terrible without any spire

They are not changing the antenna!!!

What they are changing is the material and "maybe" the casing around the antenna....

No where has any article said that they are getting rid of the antenna/spire, stop worrying it's not going to happen!

I did not expect for this, now that the project is in the final stages of construction.
Modify the spire is to make it lose its characteristics, something that can not happen, is something that makes part of the building.

It's a shame, was all right. I hope that the spire is not changed much because it's a lack of respect for those who lost their families, and for them this building is a memorial, a new beginning.

It's because he want's to be in the center of attention and he will always go against everyone, turn small news into a big one, spread misinformation and then act innocent..

People please read articles and pay attention on other things other than his attention grabbing pictures, diagrams and other stuff..
