I think he was referring to the resemblance of the World Financial Towers ( the buildings in front of 1WTC), to the buildings at Canary Wharf ( same architect ), and how the Shard would stand out there just as how 1 WTC stands out in its area.

Is that external elevator in the above picture coming down? And if so, does that mean they possibly have some internal elevators working?

Most likely not. I do believe that external elevator only reaches the 30th floor or so and always has, and considering the tower is at 100 floors, it may seem it looks like its coming down when it really isn't. But hey, who knows!

Dan, the one you're refering is the group of 6 300fpm hoisting elevators that stop at the 36th floor. The other one, located at the east, is a group of 6 700fpm hoisting elevator that will run all the way up to the parapet structure. There are in total 13 hoisting elevators, all being RAXTAR RX345.

Hi, thanks for the info. I did look at older pictures and saw it has always been positioned that way.

The question I guess I have then is why is the glass missing so far above it? Or better put, why haven't they had this elevator rise further given that they seem to intend to do that and the building would appear ready for it to go higher?

There is probably some good reason for that but as a construction layperson I don't know it.

as for the podium cladding, it is reportedly already under way. but any progress is currently obscured by the black netting around the podium. most likely at this stage Permasteelisa is still installing the anchors that will attach the glass fins to the podium structure.
Thanks so much.
