Theres no chance those pictures are the wrong way around? I think that water fountain in the orginal design would have been a perfect place for the "Sphere" to go.

Yup, all the re-designs seem to be for the worse. I've yet to see one for the better

The redesign of the West Plaza, looks like the Berlin wall..... just awful. It makes going to work feel so dull and boring ass soon as you approach the place, smh. They're over protecting the place to the point where is going to be hard to exit out the buiding due to an emergency. The 1st design has a wide spread stair case, the redesign has 1 little size staircase. Ontop of that before you can even get out the buiding, you have to go around a big ass concerete wall from the lobby. By the time you get out due to a emergency you done. I'm just saying! I believe in the protection just jeez.. The seating around the base in the 1st design was also nice to have.

The bleacher seating near the wall would have been a great place to sit and have lunch. Oh well.

I think it's all because of the safety reasons.
The original design looks like something like a carbomb for example can be easily driven up that grand stair.

Exactly what I was thinking. It looked like a small, but nice little plaza. I don't want to sit and have lunch/relax in the memorial plaza. At least not yet.

There are bollards everywhere to prevent that from happening. The only difference now is that you can easily block the only point of exit on that side of the building by wedging a burning car in that stairway. They may have "solved" one problem, but they have simply created another one. This entire tower (and development) is a comedy of errors fueled by paranoia.

What did you expect? It's the site of the most destructive terrorist attack of all time. Of course they are going to be overly paranoid. If a major attack were to happen again at this site, skyscraper development in the future could be critically harmed in NYC for decades, along with major blame to go around.

Also, do you happen to be in security? If not, I'd say you should leave that analysis to the experts before ripping apart the new measures.

What a disappointment...

The redesigned plaza looks like a prison courtyard or something... what were they thinking really??

I really do hope that they reconsider this, because such a beautiful building/landmark deserves a much better plaza.
