I walked by the other day, and, as can be seen in the photo, work is progressing on the median. It will be very wide and beautifully landscaped.

I would say that if you cut the cranes horizontally in half, you get the same height as what the roof might be.

Can't help but thinking that nasty base is now redundant.

4 more to go.

They are going at a pace 1 floor every 2 weeks.

So it will be topped off by mid-June.

PA has released April 2012 update; I've highlighted in bold aspects of construction that I think are particularly relevant.

Quote:
Monthly highlights

Perimeter columns extend to approximately 1245 feet above grade, just above the 100th floor. The 100th floor is expected to be framed with the metal deck spread by the end of April, and will be the derrick floor for staging the erection of columns to approximately 1272' above grade, just above the 102nd floor.

Construction Progress

Superstructure Steel
The framing of the 93rd floor is complete. Spreading of metal deck at the 93rd floor is in progress. Welders are completing connections at the 92nd floor, and perimeter column splices. Stud welding is in progress on the 90th floor in preparation for turnover of the metal deck to the concrete contractor for the construction of the floor slab.

Application of spray on fireproofing is in progress on 76th floor.
At the podium level, ironworkers are installing connections to square off the chamfered corners of the superstructure to accommodate the new podium enclosure system.

Superstructure Concrete
North core shear walls were cast even with the south core on the 87th floor. Completion of the core to the 87th floor allowed concrete placement for the 89th floor slab to proceed.

Building Enclosure
Curtain wall installation is complete to the 70th floor except for planned leave out areas. Slab edge anchor installation is ongoing on the 90th floor.
Podium enclosure contractor Permasteelisa is installing anchors at the south elevation of the podium.

Interiors
Stone setters and derrickmen continue installing curved marble veneer panels at the B2 level Observation Deck Lobby. The marble matches the flat panels installed on the wall and have been cut to clad the round concrete columns of the substructure.

Carpenters have begun interior framing on the ground floor, starting in the south lobby.

Elevator rail installation and machine room fit-out is well underway, and the first permanent elevator cab will be delivered this month.

Is it taking longer now because the floors are taller?

I would love to know why they ****ed with the chamfered corners on the base. I'm sure it had something to do with the feasibility of manufacturing those corner pieces, but still. Now the base is completely irrelevant to the rest of the structure.

Yeah, it seemed like it was going fast, then it slowed down. It must be taller floors as the reason for the slow down. Think about it, its at 379 meters and there are 4 floors left till it reaches its max height of 417 meters, so its 9.5 meters a floor, which is 31 feet a floor, on the other hand, one of the floors could just be really tall. What do you think ?

High winds, bad weather and late payments to DCM have slowed down construction on the remaining floors the last several months.

The aim was to get this building topped off by mid-April 2012.

It has now been delayed by a couple of months.

They build at a pace of 1 floor a week and 2 weeks for Mechanical Floor and reached the 92nd floor by early January 2012.

For 2 months they were stuck at the 92nd floor due to high winds because of unseasonably warm weather, the steel company which made the steel for the building had some financial problems, and the 92nd floor being a Mechanical floor.

So it took 2 months to get that floor built.

So right now they are at the 100th floor. The high winds are still a factor but the steel fabrication company's issues have been resolved.

The remainder floors are Observation floors and have twice the height of the average floor. And so it will take them two weeks per floor.

So building should be topped by my mid-June.

The concrete floor and cladding should reach the top 3 months after that, so around late September or early October 2012.

Once that happens, work on the Spire can commence.

Creating the base for the spire and hoisting and constructing it should take a few months.

So by late december or early January 2013, the spire will be installed.

Simultaneously, starting in October 2012, work on escalators, elevators and other items will be begin and will take around 6 months or so.

So building will hopefully open roughly around this time next year.
