To top out it needs to reach 417 Meters, which is roughly the same height jump as it did in the last two months.

Based on their current pace, I would say it will take them 2 months to top out. So early July and my guess is they will try to aim for July 4th as a symbolic date.

My gut feeling.
Except that this building won't be considered to be completely "topped out", whatsoever, until they finish the spire to that other symbolic number of 1776 feet. (number directly linked to the fourth of july, of course)
By june or july they could only finish the main structure of the building. They may or may not do some kind of commemoration of that milestone, but the official topped out ceremony should be when they finish the spire.

At least on http://www.lowermanhattan.info/const...wer_26204.aspx they assume:

"Installation of the 408-foot-tall telecommunications spire in summer 2012 (bringing total tower height to 1776 feet)"

But I wouldn't bet on that date, delays are always possible, especially since they finalized the antenna system quite recently

As far as I'm concerned, it will be topped out when construction reaches rooftop level. That is as far as public access goes, as opposed to the spire.

Sorry to correct you, but that was the Williamsburg Bridge haha. You're supposed to know that since you live in Brooklyn! haha

Anyway, my least favorite is the Williamsburg, so I can't say I'm sad that they chose that as the target haha.

I will cry if this beacon is horizontal. Vertical would make it look like it was reaching up into the heavens, & could easily be seen from 70+ miles. Such a shame plus the picture of the beacon cap Otie posted has a roof so it won't be going straight up.

Well yea but I'm referring to one wtc. Anyways, I can't believe the beacon will be horizontal Alan, do you know when the info about it will be released officially? I'm guessing after topping out of the roof

That would be awesome. Apparently the spire will take 6 months to complete

+1!

Totally possible. The external structure and roof should top out by summer...I'm sure the antenna/spire is possible. It's not like ya gotta wait an entire year and all the internal mechanics, electrical, interior, etc., etc to be finished and in place for the spire to be put on, correct? Isn't the spire considered external part of the building too???

As for the design..I concur...it would be a shame if it will be the skinny design. The original, phat, thick, beefy spire was meant to be... it's very nice and proportionate to the building and what reminds me, of lets say a modern version of the ESB, which the top of it tapers to the sky like a rocket ship.

They really need to stick with the original design. A skinny 400ft spire would look silly and will make the 1wtc look shorter, like the old ones. The original design will make it look like a true 1776ft tower and rocket ship!

edit: n/m ...lol... I thought I read it wont be till 2013 until the spire gets put on. I just re-read it is 2012 summer...awesome! woot woot!!!
