I really like the OWTC. Someday maybe I'll be able to see it in person.

Hi there,

WTC1 is growing fast to it's final height and is or will be the tallest skyscraper in NY and USA?
But in the future more large buildings will rise above this same skyline (i hope). Are there rules for future heights in the case of new skyscrapers in down town manhattan, such as; "not higher than WTC1" for example a building with a height about 1900 feet or more (or 600 meters and more etc. in Europe sizes)?

Sorry for my crappy english..

Greetings from a small place near Amsterdam were our highest tower is a dwarf in comparison to NY skyscrapers.

WTC will be the tallest in the US, it is currently the second tallest behind the Willis Tower. It will claim that title when the spire is erected.
There are air rights restrictions in most places of NYC but a 600+m tower is possible. It's just not economical.

Technically it's the third tallest by architectural height because the Trump Hotel in Chicago has a spire height of 1,389 feet..but yes second tallest roof height after the Sears Tower

Yeah the Sears will still be taller on 3/4 categories: roof height, highest occupied floor, and architectural top because of the WTC now having an antennae. But honestly, roof height is the best thing to go by, or maybe highest occupiable floor for a situation including a building like the Chrysler.

the new WTC isn't about being America's tallest, it's about becoming a symbol and showing that NYC and America can come back from devastation, and that we can come back stronger then ever.

The architectural enclosure wrapping the antenna hasn't been removed, though a possible redesign is being considered by Durst and SOM.

An antennae is still an antennae, but the CTBUH rules on spires and antennas is pretty stupid anyways. So lets just say 1 WTC is America's tallest building by pinnacle, and Sears is America's tallest building by roof. Just let them share the glory so that everyone is happy.

I am a fan of the new WTC...and New York......my favorite city after my own but reading the few previous posts some reality should be shown where the world is at.....The building to the left of the WTC in Doha was designed and planned and approved to be built here in Melbourne yet was innitially planned to be 680 metres.............I still lament.

The present tallest buildings in Hong Kong and Guangzhou should be in that diagram. I think they are taller than WTC 1.

CTBUH no longer measures roofs (that measurement was dropped in 2009). So Willis only wins in one category, and that's highest occupied floor. Also, CTBUH is leaned towards still calling the antennae a "spire".

That list is looking heavily unlikely. Ping An is having trouble just trying to get above ground, and I'm doubtful that several of these towers will even get built.

i'm pretty sure that ping an's speed is going to increase once it is out of that hole. And i have to agree that others like the doha one will most likely never be built, yet are there other rather recent projects that could make it into the list and aren't listed either. (triple one, menara warisan, rose rock, caiwuwei) so who knows what the future will bring.
