Wow... people are making such a huge deal out of this. I don't get it. Sure, I was disappointed when they made the change, but I'm over it now. People are taking this way too seriously. A disgrace? Ok.....

I bet Durst's claim that the maintenance would be "impossible" and too difficult is pure utter BS. The architects themselves stated that they've already had a maintenance plan from the get go. Durst = excuses excuses. Tar and feather them. They don't give a sh*t about NYC nor USA. Anybody who really did care, would NOT downgrade the design so much. As it's been stated a bunch of times already, it's all money and politics. F politics.

I wouldn't defend that. But saying this is a national disgrace is crazy. If they stopped construction because of running out of money, it would be a disgrace to NY maybe, but to the nation ? Come on...

You sound like a spoiled brat. How would them changing to an antennae mean they hate America ? They barely downgraded it, they just changed the spire, and changed the base a tad.

are you serious? That spire made this building not awful, it made the NYC skyline.

I guess that's a reasonable stance. You are saying that you don't like the building, but the spire made it look better, so now, you hate the building again, since the spire is gone.

I didn't give a opinion, I stated how I felt. I didn't ask Kanto for his opinion because I don't care.

432 Park has a horrible design, that's for sure.

Bitchin' image. Very cool. Too bad it'll never be a reality. Hell, NY will be lucky to get WTC2 or WTC3 the way things are going.

I just wanted to say, even though I am not a US citizen, I feel utterly OFFENDED by this HIDEOUS redesign....

I really am at a loss for words... this building was on its way to become a true landmark not just for US but the entire world and they completely ****ed it up in every imaginable way...

It looks so CHEAP... like the spire -erhm...excuse me... ANTENNA- is made out of scrap metal found in a scrapyard...

This tower...if this continues like this.... is simply... DEAD. Mostly I feel the pain of all the workers down at the site... they all thought that they were involved in something great, writing history...and now they are told that what they have been building all these years is not only going to look like total crap at the end, it will also miss its most important aspect, the 1,776 mark. Which will mean the tower is going to be the tallest in New York for like 2-3 years tops since 432 park is going to own it...

WAY TO GO DURST...WAY TO GO...

A HUGE **** YOU FROM EUROPE!

I was so looking forward to seeing the spire as well, it looked such an interesting design.

The new design of the building really doesn't look that bad. I heard a rumor they may not restore Greenwhich street anymore either, but don't quote me. Besides they could care less if the building and the site itself is completely appealing to the public anyway. It's an office building, all of the buildings are, all they care about is filling the buildings with tenants to making money, it's all about the money, they could give a ratsa** about how beautiful the public wants the site. I really hope that they do count it towards the height, it's simply symbolic, there should be an acception IMO. Oh and One World Trade Center would look awkward and unappealing as a twin IMO, it just wouldn't look right I think:/

Wow, official height from 541m to 419m :/

I really don't think the new spire/antenna looks bad tho, the building itself is still great. The only thing I don't really like is the circular mesh stuff at the base of the antenna, that looks a bit cheap.

Since they destroyed this tower both aesthetically and in regards to what it stood for, while they are at it, they should also rename the tower something like:

"One Big Ass World Trace Failure"
"Failure Tower" (instead of Freedom Tower)

etc etc
